CTD after starting new game

Recommended Posts

I get a CTD every single time I click on new game. I get to see the loading screen but as soon as it's finished loading it crashes.

I've just installed all the mods from Bevilex' modlist from vanilla.

I feel like I read everything well but there's obviously a chance I missed something with over 100 mods.

I've run BOSS like 1000 times at this point, tried LOOT a bunch of times too because it works well on skyrim.

I feel like I'm using TES4Edit to do something but I'm no 100 percent sure I know what I'm doing with it.

Please can someone help me work out what's wrong?

try this

http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/22368/?

and follow ALL of Step 2 from my guide including the appendix 1 ( if you need to ) - what you are looking for is any orange or red mods { explained in my guide }

https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/2235394-beginners-guide-to-modding/

and yes i know the guide was written for Skyrim but as far as Wrye is concerned it "should" be the same info

Oh and 1 more thing, and I almost never say this lol, don't use LOOT, you were correct in using BOSS. LOOT does a horrible job sorting Oblivion, Morrowind, and Fallout 3.

Ok, I went through all of that and did it exactly as it said.

None of my mods are red now- all green, a number of my installers' checkboxes are yellow, red or maybe orange I can't tell, but I don't know what that means.

I'm not using LOOT now, just BOSS.

There was nothing on TES4Edit that said error but like I said, I'm unfamiliar with that program so I could be missing something.

Despite all that, the exact same thing is happening - CTD as soon as the loading screen is over from new game.

"checkboxes are yellow, red or maybe orange"

Use a magnifying glass if you have to and read the part in my guide where I explain what the difference is between Orange, Red, and Green mods is.

Simply put

Red = CTD as soon as the game starts - "most of the time"

Orange = CTD's when you least expect it

Green = you're good to go

I think the OP meant that their installers were yellow, orange or red, and not plugins. At least the last post made it sounds like it. This part:

Yes, that's what I meant, sorry if I was unclear.

I've read through the guides and have been looking elsewhere, trying to understand this process a bit better.

Now all my mods are green and I read through the mod descriptions and I'm pretty sure I've got them loading in an order that shouldn't be a problem.

I lowered a number of my video settings just in case.

I've used TES4Edit to clean the mods that WB said I should.

I'm not sure which of the above changed anything, but now I get to see the opening cinematic before it CTDs.

Here's my load order, ordered by BOSS, it has changed:

Are these original game files or mods?

01 All Natural Base.esm [Version 1.36]
02 CustomSpellIcons.esm

If they are mods they should be BELOW the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp, not above

NOTE: I just realized something while looking at your load order. Make sure you are following certain mods correctly when you are including the ESP's. What I mean about that is make sure you are loading ONLY the ESP's you need. For instance:

++ ShinySeptims_Septimus.esp
++ ShinySeptims_Trajanus.esp

Make sure on the description page it doesn't say something like " Use one ESP or the other, not both" . Many mods include more than one ESP and loading 2 or more when you don't need them could very well cause the same EXACT CTD you're having.

No, they're both mods. the unofficial patch can't be moved above them on WB, I was under the impression that .esm always comes before .esp in oblivion load order, but maybe I'm wrong, if so, I don't know how to move these below the unofficial patch on WB.

I tried deactivating them and any mods that rely on them but there was no difference - CTD after opening cinematic.

Thanks for spotting the two .esp for the same mod, I removed one of them.

I let BOSS do my load order, with the exception of Mass Outfit Redesign.esp which has to be loaded after knights.esp, but BOSS always puts it before so I move it.

CTD after opening cinematic still, no change.

This is my load order at present.

You're welcome but what I meant is that you need to do that ALSO for any other mod that may use multiple ESM's / ESP's

At this point I think ultimately that what you are going to have to do is the old tried and true method.

1) disable ALL mods

2) go into the game and make a save with ZERO mods activated

3) enable FIVE mods at a time, and after each 5 go into the game and test it to see if it crashes

4) once you find the batch of 5 mods that crashes the game, disable those 5 and then test one by one

5) when you find the mod(s) causing the crashes, either look for an alternative one like it (them) or ditch the problem mod(s)
