timothesalaun
HiI installed Skyrim last week on my computer, but I can't launch it.When I launch Skyrim, there's the logo of Bethesda, and then the Imperial Dragon, but at this moment the game quits.I uninstalled Skyrim, and installed it again, but I've the same problem. Can you help me?Thanks
nodon
I had a similar problem a few days ago - I think it was due to the Bethesda hi-res packs. Use Skyrimlauncher.exe (in steam/steamapps/common/skyrim). - under data files, uncheck everything but skyrim.esm - under options, select low detailTry launching the game and see if that gets you further. Read the HD Textures DLC fix - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=8236. Don't sweat changing the .ini file - you can save a backup before changing, or if you feel you just totally hosed it, delete the .ini and Skyrim will recreate on launch. Just on general principles, verify the integrity of your game cache (through Steam app, Library, rightclick Skyrim, properties, local files). I bought Skyrim on the day it was released. I played on and off with no problems over several hours. Then, for no reason I can think of, it just wouldn't load. I hadn't changed anything on my PC or in the game. I asked for help on Steam but got no reply. Then, a few days later I noticed Steam was updating Skyrim (with the patch I guess), so I tried loading it again - and it worked. I installed the Skyrim Script Extender and always launch from that and there hasn't been a problem in the 190+ hours since.
nodon
Good point re: script extender. I always have a hard time finding where the script extender is located - here's a link: http://skse.silverlock.org/ At least one mod (SkyUI) requires it to work properly. timothesalaun
I uninstalled and reinstalled Windows 7 just before Skyrim began to malfunction (I had already played to Skyrim before), and I think I didn't reinstall Steam. Is it a problem? Is it possible to play to TES V without Steam? Thanks
nodon
... Is it possible to play to TES V without Steam? Interesting - never tried it. A quick googling sounds like it may have worked at first but may have been patched away.

Is it possible to play to TES V without Steam?ThanksThat is likely the source of your problems. Skyrim requires Steam to run at all, unless you somehow kept your game unpatched at 1.1 - the 1.2 patch added some extra code to the TESV.exe that will always check Steam is installed and running (offline or online modes). Get Steam up and going again and you should be fine.
