Question about dds/nif in Geck

Howdy. I've just started messing around with the GECK for the first time, and I've been having a blast with it. However, I have ran into a small problem when making a new item. As an example, lets say I was making a new food item that I want to use both the pipboy art and world model of Gecko Steak.

 

The only way I've found to do this is to use FOMM to extract bsa, then re-add the already existing art back into a custom folder in /Data. Is there a way, in the Geck, to have a new item created by an esp reference art in a pre-existing (and dependant) esm?
