Help Making armor shiny instead of dull

Hey how do I make dull armor shiny. I use gimp,nifskope, and TR. I tried lightning the dds in gimp and making a new normal map of that but nothing it just makes the armor brighter. Do I need some other tool or is there a good tutorial on making armor and weapons shiny? Thanks

Shinyness is controlled in the alpha layer of the normal map. It'll never work like a mirror, or anything even close, but it can provide for some useful highlights.

In nifskope, under where you choose your texture, it'll have something for the material. Double click it, and change the glossiness. To the left is more glossy, to the right is less glossy, which is the opposite of what you'd think.
