CMoth
Not sure if it's a mod (there are many btw) or a graphics card issue. Two things coincided, I installed a new graphics card (EVGA GTX 460) and also installed Project Nevada. Was having very few issues, now, bugs a plenty. For the most part I was having texture issues and crashes almost every time I tried to fast travel or the game would do a quick save. It would also crash when accessing the menu functions and occasionally my Pip Boy. After I deactivated Project Nevada I am still experiencing crashes, not as frequently mind you, but more annoyingly every time I try to open a chat dialog with a companion. I'm at a loss. Everything was running fine prior to this. The other few mods I've installed since are fairly minor and don't effect the core that I know of. They've been a few weapon mods and the extended radio plug-ins. (The radio plugins were installed after I started experiencing the weird crashes). Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any help would be appreciated. ETA: I forgot to mention, I deactivated and then reactivated archiveinvalidation. My freezing is now more centered around talk options with companions and occasionally with Pip-Boy access. CMoth
Okay, I started studying up on load orders. FOMM seems to just stick things where-ever and I wasn't paying attention. So, I adjusted everything's load order depending on what it changed in the game; ie. environmental stuff first, new ares, companion stuff, weapons and armor last. The end result is that it seems to be working. So far, so good. ETA: For some reason the crashes have started again. No real changes have been made. It only freezes now at least when I access the pip-boy. ETA 2: Placed Fallout.esm at the head of my load order. For some reason FOMM had it following all of the DLC content. Still experiencing freezes when entering speech menu through the companion wheel. The crashes accessing the pip-boy (using the readius) aren't as frequent as they were but frequent enough to be unreasonable. Most of my mods are weapon related. I've recently added the readius pip-boy mod but the crashes were already happening. When I deactivate the readius, I still have a bare arm and when I call up the pip-boy I have only my forearm with no access options or screens. I really would appreciate any suggestions. If there is information I haven't provided yet, even a question or two may be helpful. Anybody?? Edited February 24, 2012 by CMoth
CMoth
I hesitate to add my load order menu, there are over 80 mods. That got me thinking about some of the comments during previous searches about reaching a "mod limit". I deactivated one of my mods that had several elements, it was the Wasteland Sex packet (I'm over it now anyway and wasn't using it much). It did result in an improvement. I was able to enter speech options with companions using the wheel. Fast travel improved and accessing the pip-boy was trouble free (I played for about 20 minutes. However, the game froze up on me when I tried to access the standard menu for a gamesave. That might be a "normal" Fallout crash but I'd never had it crash on me accessing this function before in either Fallout 3 or Fallout New Vegas, either PC or Console (Xbox). I'm going to try and see if there is anything else I can eliminate and see if it improves further.
KliptoVamus
My Crash is also increasing and i got 66 active mods, usually my screen just freeze whenever i try to Loot Bodies, or choosing perk. I somewhat noticed that some mods are in conflict with the other one, so i had to disable it, start a fresh save, well, it won't freeze or anything anymore up until now.. Do you happen to have any mods which increase NPCs?
yungskiz
crashing when saving or fast travel? it sounds to me like youve corrupted your save game, the solution:back ups>after everytime i play i make a copy of my save game, i keep three copies (in case i were to overwrite a back up with a freshly corrupted save) thats really all you can do, as far as i know there isnt a way to "un" corrupt a save file, not from what ive tried anyways. there is also a max mod limit, at which point the game bugs out beyond all belief, but i have more mods than you so i doubt thats the issue, although i am having some issues at the moment, i believe they are due to one mod and not due to having too many
CMoth
Actually, the only crashes I'm currently having are all related to quick-saves (fast travel or going through an access point for a loading area) or accessing the save menu. It doesn't happen all the time but regularly. After snooping around some more I've read some threads concerning the UAC settings in Windows 7 and it conflicting with game-saves if the main game files are in protected areas of the drive (which mine are). I've tried to reset the permission for access for the specific files (my Steam folder) but it hasn't cleared it up. I'll next try to uninstall and re-install to an unprotected drive space. I also came across the FNVEdit program and downloaded it and the training manual. It really is an interesting resource as it points out conflicting entries in mods and gives recommendations for solving those conflicts. Linky for FNVedit file... http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=34703 I'm learning all kinds of new s***... this would be awesome if the CTD wasn't so annoying. CMoth
My game-saves are not corrupted, they load fine. The CTD occurs before a save can be created. I'm not getting corrupt auto saves like I did on the consoles. My GOD but that was irritating. At least wit ha desktop I have a chance of fixing the issues instead of being a freaking slave to them. To answer the other poster, yes, I'm using a couple of mods that effect NPC followers. I've checked the conflicts in them and moved their load orders to where it isn't a problem anymore (that actually improved the game performance considerably). CMoth
Fairly certain since almost all of my crash to desktop are related in some way to saves (accessing the file locations in UAC protected drive) that I need to move FalloutNV to a different section of the drive not effected by uac. Unfortunately, whn I try to move it manually I don't even have it as an option. Also, uninstall / reinstall using the disc automatically starts the download into the exact same place it was before. Fail to see why I can't decide where it installs.

luthienanarion
Load one of your saved games, and then die. You can open the console and type 'player.kill' if there is no bodily harm readily available. After you die, let the game reload and then make a hard save (via the menu) to a new file. If it saves without crashing, celebrate. Doesn't always work, but it can fix crash-on-save issues most of the time.
