mod to use workshop for a LONG project (like build a car)?

I am looking for a reason to salvage that is NOT building settlements. I have all the mods possible for my weapons. But that process made me think it would be fun to build PARTS that would be used to slowly build a project like a car (or something) from the ground up.

 

So it would be like:

 

Need base frame, need to get all the junk to scrap to build that. Build a part, attache it to the project then repeat.

 

Like maybe, need engine to mount to base frame. But have to build engine first, and THAT needs parts that must be built first .... and so on.

 

So this would be a REALLY long project that may take dozens of hours of scavenging to build the thing because all the parts need to be built individually and then mounted on the project. You should be able to see the project done part by part or at least in stages as you "attache" parts.

 

Need not be a car that was just the easiest example that came to mind. Could be a robot I guess but not like how robots are made now.

 

I almost thought I might try to make this mod myself (good reason to get me back into working with NIFs) but my passion really is in TES modding not fallout (but fallout is my "go to" game to take a break form Skyrim). So I was hoping someone has done this already?

Well I just found out there are a few WORKING cars in the game hidden in the code. So I think I will try making this mod myself.

 

EDIT:

it was a HOAX youtuber vid, but I am going forward with this mod anyway. I have the workbench working (it looks like a broken down junk car and the animation is the player welding on it :smile: ) and several car parts recipes made already. The only thing now is what do I do once the player actually has all the parts?

I am not sure I want to turn this into a "drivable vehicle" mod as that is not really my intent with this mod. But I got to give the player something for completing the rebuild of the car. I think I can do the drivable vehicle thing if I have (maybe) to but I would like an alternative.

this is a neat idea thread!

it's like the dad from George Shrinks always working on a zuper-car, or restoration etc,

or,

Fletch from "Classic Resto's" showcasing the restoration works people make all around the world.

in FONV, a restoration society from the Boomers, restored a pre-war bomber from the nearby lake,

in FO2, the corvega highwayman was constantly being 'resto'd"

so, why not vehicles and the suchlike in the Boston Commonwealth?

 

maybe they're restoring one of those tanks or APCs littered around the place,

or perhaps a bubblecar, motorcycle or corvega...

 

a drivable vehicle would be fairly awesome,

and in early beta forms of FO4,

vehicles were an alternative to Power Armor for folks that didn't want to join

the Institute, Enclave or BoS or atom cats.

 

then, there's also some awesome stuff like

automathrone,

b2-D-b2's vehicle shenanigans,

and Cyper2012's train projects

not to mention VerasCETA's airship project - how awesome would that be?!

and the flyable "1:1" TARDIS

I think RuadHan2300's blink teleporter also technically counts as a vehicle hehe.

 

if you don't necessarily want to do vehicles at this time,

you could make monuments, statues, or vehicle themed furniture like you might find in

modern "rockabilly bars" nostalgic for the 50s;

its an Americana thing to put numberplates and car-themed parts at the milk-bar etc.

 

some potential ideas follow in the spoiler partition below.

 

 

so, having some buildable scrap cars you can drive would be awesome.

I would encourage a collab on vehicles, particularly to get the physics just so hehe.

having scrap half-tracks and robo-brain automathrones and weaponized forklifts would be fun,

especially as an end-game "high challenge level" enemy.

if you don't want an actual driveable car,

maybe you could make a fountain or statue... or, hologram-display.

if we can make a clockwork orrery fountain statue,

and a 'hologram statute'/neonsign, we can make that happen hehe.

 

or maybe you can make vehicle-themed settlement build items;

a Horse-Float makes an excellent 'castle gatehouse'/'novelty scrap-house',

i have several on the top of the Greygarden City overpass hotel...

a chrysllus corvega themed sofa or engine-coffeetable would be fun for the den...

hanging a car from guide-wires in the air, or as part of a billboard sign would be hilarious...

having a museum in the institute would be nice...

 

you could give the player an autopia-style "driver's license' for a car they can't ever actually drive...

replete with annual 'renewal fee and onroad costs'.

you could give the player a "technical manual" for the vehicle, using the 'better books and comics in FO4"

mod framework, to make a 'readable' technical schematic book available upon quest completion.

 

how about settlement building stuff;

doorways that are torggler doors, with a car door instead would be hilarious.

the car door hinges away and back, and you can have 'gull-wing torggler doors"

windows in your house which are wind-up from a car door, like 'louvre windows' would be hilarious.

 

Car-themed chairs would be hilarious at the city-state town council meetings,

just a car-racing bucket chair on a car-tire wheel, like those 'variable geometry square chair'

or 'unicycle office ottoman' light scooters hehe.

a literal 'wheel-chair'.

or of course, park benches, seating at the doctors office or at the local "Books" (school)

 

you could take a cue from Greek-Rage's novelty disguised entrances and elevators etc,

and have a car or bus-themed elevator.

"you take the bus up to the overpass" doesn't mean, catch a bus-bus, it means "take the freight elevator" hehe.

the bus conductor/elevator MC NPC might be called "Mz. Frazzle"

in homage to the magic schoolbus...

 

and as previously suggested,

a "guillotine" from a car-bonnet as a large border-gate would be awesome.

a deadly doorway used to kill raider's enemies. its a car suspended from a hydraulic ram arm or a forklift hehe.

perhaps with the car-alarm central locking or horn when in use?

 

perhaps, a doorway piece with the front headlights for night-time, with the indicators turning on when you open the door...

the lights are a security motion-sensor system, or used to project holograms or shadow-puppets.

how's that for whimsy? (though that was a concept sketch by Adam Adamowicz, so full credit must go to Adamowicz hehe)

 

perhaps also, 'playground equipment- misc" for the cars,

and 'car-hedge' like the one near federal ration stockpile...

Wow the junk sculpture would have been a WAY better idea for this scrap mod. Dam I wish I had thought of that, but I am too invested now in the car reconstruction theme and I already have a lot of car parts already done.

 

I guess I will say the car you are building is a commissioned project. It is for display only as there is no more gasoline in the world (Gas in tanks will only last 5 years before it turns to goop). You can sell the car for huge amount of caps. Maybe by the time I am done making this mod I will change my mind and try to make the car drive-able.

 

Each time you work on your car and can make a new part without a “set back” you will get the same kind of buff as from sleeping with your spouse. However, there is also a down side...

 

Restoration set backs that may happen (dice roll based on skills?)

Set backs will turn one off the car parts into "worthless junk" with a loss in the components used to make it.

Each disaster will be accompanied by messages such as:

 

"Measure twice and cut once! Your part is now worthless."

 

"Tried to bang it together without blueprints." Your part is now worthless."

 

"Wrong dam size!." Your part is now worthless."

I like where it is going :)

there really isn't much difference between rebuilding the car to sell as a museum piece and making a sculpture to sell. it's really just the parts list and finished look of the thing ;)

 

may I recommend a little music to listen to as you build your Corvega?

Great idea!

 

 

I may be requiring the player to first make the following car "only" type tools as well:

 

Bleeder Tool
Chassis Tool
Driveline Tool
Puller Tool
Strut & Spring Tool
You would need to have these in your workshop inventory first to work on the car parts.
I will drop these around to be found in various locations that are car related.

I think I will be done with this by the end of next week.

 

I will not be uploading it to the public for a very long time (may not ever) for reasons I will not get into just now. But as you guys helps me I was wondering if you wanted me to make it available to you via a drop box link?
