Tamujiin
Anyway, i looked here to see how the community in general feels about these epically failed bills, because, the bills will be re-written, and re-introduced to the house and senate in the fall, im not posting this to debate it. What im looking for is a broad opinion base. Speak your opinion, and as the starter of the topic, please respect peoples opinion. Dont attack them. Some Facts: 1. Piracy is illegal, and it costs, the entertainment industries Billions of dollars a year.2. The government censoring the internet is infringing on our consitutional rights. My opinion, its a hard discussion. But i think we all need to have it. Keep on topic, don't go into they do this or that elsewhere. Is there a way to stop internet piracy? If they written the bill better would it be worth it? I think there should be a time limit on these things, for instance, games that no longer are supported, they should be available to download, if not for free a reasonable price. example: gog.com ( in the bills the government had a right to censor this site. ) A deep down inside feeling is, i think the government wants everybody to get a credit card. :) Someone should invent an atm like kiosk you can insert money into and put it onto your paypal account. No credit card needed. Hopefully this isnt against site rules, i havent been around in awhile.
Nadimos
All in all we need a more open approach to it, that makes more sense for everybody. These lobbies, are not of any use to country or industries. They are so... skewed is the word i am looking for i think.Which is no surprise as they only see themselfsand that is a sad state of affairs. So let ushope it will wake up a lot of people fromthe younger generation and then officials can do something, which is of actual benefit to all and fits the modern age.Amen. modder3434
stopping internet piracy permanently is as probable as eliminating the poor and rich in society. As long as the internet is still around and as long as music and games and movies are still being made, their will be someone pirating it. Sure the govt can try to reduce it, but the way SOPA and PIPA was no the way to go. if it has passed it would have turned into a witch hunt for online pirates, and the internet would no longer be free, it would be a under the thumb of a government who likes to constantly give themselves more liberty with how to spy and control their population. as for why the goverment cares about piracy, its about the money, its always about the money. I would REALLY like to know how they came up with those numbers..... There is zero information out there about how many folks that pirate material, would have actually PURCHASED it in the first place. Also not taken into consideration is how much the industry spends on DRM software, that doesn't work, and in many cases, is counter-productive. A significant percentage of folks that pirate software, (games in particular) do so because the publishers load it down with so much crap, and hoop jumping, as to make the legitimate copy of the game difficult, if not impossible, for some folks to get it running. The pirated copies without all that overhead, don't suffer from those problems. Piracy is never going to be stopped. Legislation isn't even going to slow it down. No DRM is ever going to be effective. The entertainment industry screaming about how much it costs them is a sham.
