yungskiz
specifically im having issues with the book of earache weapon replacer mod, a few days ago all of a sudden my entire game bugged out, and i was getting ctd's on startup(no new mods installed), i knew it was a load order problem, so i went through the list and discovered 2 things, 1 i lost an esp ive been using since i bought the game, and 2 one of my mods that i have been using all of a sudden decided that dead money was a required file, no idea what happened there, thats fixed now though. anyways book of earache replaces the appearance of most of the vanilla weapons, and now all of a sudden, most of my guns (not all of them ?!?!?!) have reverted to the default appearance, also shells rain is a part of the boe mod, and thats actually how i discovered the problem, after shooting, the red triangles would be everywhere, my mesh/texture (i shouldn't be using them interchangeably but i forget which file is missing when the triangles appear >.<)for the bullet shell is gone, turning off shells rain got rid of the triangles, but the problem still isnt fixed. also despite some guns reverting to the vanilla appearance, and some using the replaced appearance, some of the guns seemingly dont know what appearance to use and just glitch to the triangle, if it helps, ALL the guns have reverted to the default names, like the 10mm smg for example, the mod turns it into "hk 10mm ump" well now its back to vanilla you dont really need to read this part:(skip two paragraphs down if you want)fixing it is beyond me since ive never deleted anything , something similar happened before when i hit the max mod limit (yes, there is one and i broke the crap out of it) but ive added more mods (only...you know.....6 or 7...)and they work just fine. maybe its an archive invalidation issue? ive done the whole archive thing through fallout mod manager and maybe it could have reverted to its original state? i dont think thats the issue because, my other mods that add new meshes/textures work just fine. :ohdear: there is one more thing, to me its like the red ring of death on xbox, on an older machine i played fo3(vista), had a lot of mods there too, and one day a specific set of mods (bonds mods, really nice houses, share the same set of meshes/textures) crapped out on me, so i re-downloaded a few of them, and tried to reinstall them. i did this because i wasnt getting crashes, just red triangles when i accessed the mod added content. to me this meant i was missing files, so when i tried to re-install these mods, i got the message that pops up when theres a file of the same name in the folder already(so the files that aren't in game are supposedly in the folder?) when i tried to overwrite the existing files it failed, i dont remember the exact message, but when i went snooping in that folder to find these files, i found hundreds of folders that had the name of my missing meshes with some weird gibberish file extension, and i couldnt delete any of them, it said they were open in another program. what makes good sense to me, would be to redownload the book of earache, however, its a huge file, if i dont have to i dont want to wait for that long, thank you for reading, i hope someone can help, maybe vegas is broken, or maybe this happens all the time
Fonger
did you make the classic mistake of installing steam into the default location making this just another UAC issue cured by reading up on the steam forums and moving either your steam install or your game location outside of the cursed directory
yungskiz
:wallbash: um yeah, ive heard about that (long after i installed it) up until now i never noticed an issue caused directly by it, so i never tried to fix it..... can i just drag and drop the vegas directory to a new location or will that make things bug out worse? cormell
Huh, really? You're supposed to load FNV someplace other tahn Steam\steamapps?? Where would that be - anywhere? What dif does that make?
Quetzlsacatanango
AFAIK it still has to be in steam\steamapps, but you move the steam dir out from under Program Files so that UAC doesn't bork it. Google for instructions on how to do that.
