stebbinsd
Imagine if there was a quiz show that was broadcast over the radio? Like, every day, from 7PM to 8PM game time, DC Radio will host a quiz show between three contestants from three randomly selected settlements, where some game show host other than Travis (he doesn't strike me as the type to host game shows) will ask randomly from a selection of about 5,000 questions (pieced together using chunks of in-game voice clips) to the contestants. It would be a "first to five points" format, where the first contestant to answer five questions correctly (no penalty for an incorrect answer) would would win some sort of prize. You could also be on this show yourself, competing against two NPCs. If you're a contestant and you buzz in first, you would be given four options for an answer. This is why we need about 5,000 questions; we don't want the player to be able to learn the answers to the trivia questions simply by listening to the show on the radio! Here are some examples of questions you can program into the game, as well as the multiple choices you'd have to answer if you were a contestant: Q: What are the super mutants called who strap mini-nukes to their arms?1. Super Mutant Martyrs.2. Super Mutant Suiciders.3. Super Mutant Suicide Bombers.4. Super Mutant Dumbasses. Q: The deathclaw is a radiation-mutated descendant of what pre-war animal?1. Chameleons2. Lizards3. Slugs4. Republicans I'd like to keep Option No. 4 as a sarcastic answer that would require a very hard speech check for the host to credit you with a right answer. Listening in on the radio, the prize would not be revealed to the audience. If you're a contestant and you win, you'd be rewarded with a randomly-selected prize which can include ... - 5,000 caps- A random piece of X-01 power armor- 100 random chems- A full suit of heavy combat armor- A choice legendary weapon. By "choice," I mean a legendary effect that actually compliments the base weapon's function. For example, the "instigating minigun" is a complete waste of space, since the minigun does so little damage per shot. See also "troubleshooters/ghoul slayer's gamma gun." However, an instigating gauss rifle or a wounding minigun would be "choice" weapons!
montky
I like your idea stebbins, this'd be awesome!especially in the broader context of the upcoming NPC overhaul and in conjunction with severalother ambient quest frameworks. notably, Gwent/Caravan and Poker cardgames in FO4 etc. this would be great to have settlers gather around their radios and jukeboxes...perhaps, leaving vulnerabilities in some settlements around that time, perfect for Regulator themed 'who-dunnit' quests.or, you know, looters. in terms of gameplay,it would be great to have this as a 'speech instance' encounter, with the radio, or in thin air if you've only got your pip-boy out in the field.that'd be an invisible speech actor who spawns a radius from the player character at that in-game time, if the player is tuned to the channel.or, it could be a 'hologram'...(you'd hope that it has VATS time if this comes on, or you can skip or ignore the broadcast once it starts...) the "advertisements" would be hilarious.ad-breaks to hock crudy post-war merch, that kind of thing. MightyZ0G
it might even be possible to find sound bites from old TV shows that have passed into public domain and are no longer bound by copyright  it's serendipitous that any shows in this category are likely to be from the late 50's and early 60's which would make them fit right into the Fallout game world :D Edited July 15, 2017 by mighty zog
