tokingtolkien
I am going to say one thing, and one thing only. This is to those kids that think gaming is only for 10-17 year olds. I grew up with the Nintendo. the original nintendo. I grew up with the sega genisis, super nintendo, turbo graphix 16, Atari Jaguar, Playstation 1. if you little punks think that gaming is only for kids, you got another thing coming. if it wasn't for us adults out there that supported the gaming community when we were kids, begging our parents for the next super mario brothers, or the next castlvania, or contra, you little dudes who think you are badaas gamers wouldn't have anything. Respect your elders, respect those who create the things you play. Who the hell do you think makes these games? 14 year olds? 18 year olds? No we adults do. And we always will because it is a form of employment and or enjoyment. I say the gaming inudstry in 20 years will well surpass the "hollywood" industry. And in saying that alot more Adult games will be out there, you little dudes gonna say this is gay or that is gay? No your gonna love it, because it is the next badass thing out there. And yet you little punks belive now you have a say in things. you might. you may very well do. But not for long. Only time is on your side. I didnt love all of alienslofs work either. but i loved a majority of it. And little flamers who think they have a say in things? boy kiddos, you have another thing coming! I remeber how "hard" the original super mario brothers was. Took me a few months to get to bowser. Now i could do it in a half hour fifteen minutes. With that being said, do you little dumbass flamers know what it took alienslof to make just a one mod? There is more kilobytes in 1 finger of slofs mods than there is in the entire Nintendo game selection. More kilobytes in an arm than the entire Sega genisis, super nintedo, and turbo graphix 16 combined. And yet you have the ghast to judge her because of a little male pajog? Whats the difference between showing a womans jeed than a mans pajog? It urks me that "kids" have this power to make such a talented artist quit do, to a an immature mind. I hope Alienslof posts something here. at least i hope she reads what we wrote for her. Dont give into the immature "kids" out there slof. You have a good following. And also i havent downloaded your horse mod yet. I was going to but i read the damn thread in a mod suntiger made ( slofs beefcake armor ,and it pissed me off royaly) . and i downloaded most of what had your name on it because i figured it would be good, if not all of it, something in it would. and it was. with that said i hope, i inside me i know, she needs a break, butshe will return. And i hope thedarkone figures out a way to stop these kids from flaming, He has my support, as does slof and all those great modders out there that make oblivion what it can be. one of the best games to play. period. ( forgive me for ranting on. they had a live band at the bar tonight, it was great, buti still mean what i say.) einhander888, I AGREE with on your posts. While I'm not an "old fogy" I am still from the NES era too. And have been following TES since Arena. And I despise the notion that Video Games are for kids, we are talking about a 30+ year old industry for crying out loud. One that has already surpassed Hollywood years ago by the way in sales.GTA4 is an industry milestone of a single game outselling the best that Hollywood has to offer http://www.thatvideogameblog.com/2008/05/0...ce-ea-close-in/ do some searching you will find that no single tile from Hollywood touches that,Spider-Man,Harry Potter, Star Wars, Titanic ect. even adjusted for inflation. What that means is the Game industry has finally out paced Hollywood in both yearly sales volume and single title sales.Even if you don't like GTA the impact of this development is simple "Nobody can say poo about Video Games as just a kiddie toy."The Impact of the Wii attracting large numbers of casual and new older gamers along with the above really goes along way to change those retarded notions, the average gamer age is 28-30 depending on the statistic some higher and some lower. Immature comments are more an indication of an immature society that breeds those attitudes. Me generation, Instant food, over-reliance on Oil to get where you want when you want for what you want. Instant Gratification. Inability to take and admit responsibility. As to Video Game violence and or sex and their impact on children don't get me stated. All I will say is this a groundbreaking study, book recently was released einhander888 and whoever else may have children should look into this book,Grand Theft Childhoodif you don't know already.http://www.grandtheftchildhood.com/GTC/Home.html A sample from the website, The Book Despite the media hype and political posturing, new, federally funded research on violent video games and teenagers indicates that the politicians and even some health professionals may have it all wrong! In 2004, Drs. Lawrence Kutner and Cheryl K. Olson, co-founders and directors of the Harvard Medical School Center for Mental Health and Media, began a $1.5 million study funded by the U.S. Department of Justice on the effects of video games on young teenagers. In contrast to previous research, they studied real children and families in real situationsWhat they found surprised, encouraged, and sometimes disturbed them. Coming to the project with no agenda except to conduct sound, responsible research, their findings conform neither to the views of the alarmists nor of the video game industry. In Grand Theft Childhood, Kutner and Olson untangle the web of politics, marketing, advocacy and flawed or misconstrued studies that until now have shaped parents’ concerns. What should we as parents, teachers and public policy makers be concerned about? 1. •The real risks are subtle, and aren’t just about violence, gore or sex.2. •Video games don’t affect all children in the same way. Some children are at significantly greater risk. (You may be surprised to learn which ones!)Grand Theft Childhood gives parents practical, research-based advice on ways to limit many of those risks. It also shows how video games—even violent games—can benefit children and families in unexpected ways.1. Instead of offering a one-size-fits-all prescription, Grand Theft Childhood gives the information you need to decide how you want to handle this sensitive issue in your own family.2. •You’ll learn when—and what kinds of—video games can be harmful, when they can serve as important social or learning tools, and how to create and enforce game-playing rules in your household. 3. •You’ll find out what’s really in the games your children play, and when to worry about them playing with strangers on the Internet.4. •You’ll learn how games are rated, how to make best use of those ratings—and the important information that ratings don’t tell you.In this ground-breaking and timely book, Drs. Lawrence Kutner and Cheryl Olson cut through the myths and hysteria, and reveal the surprising truth about kids and violent games. Grand Theft Childhood takes video games out of the political and media arenas, and puts parents back in control. The Authors Lawrence Kutner, Ph.D. and Cheryl K. Olson, Sc.D. are co-founders and directors of the Center for Mental Health and Media, based in the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. They’re both on the psychiatry faculty at Harvard Medical School.Larry Kutner is the author of five previous books about child psychology and parent-child communication. He wrote the award-winning weekly New York Times “Parent & Child” column, was the “Ask the Expert” columnist for Parents magazine, and has been a columnist and contributing editor at Parenting and Baby Talk magazines. He’s a licensed psychologist and a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, which awarded him its National Psychology Award for the best newspaper writing about psychology in the United States. Cheryl K. Olson is a public health researcher and practitioner. She’s a former teen issues columnist for Parents magazine, and was the Principal Investigator of the first federally funded, large-scale research project to take an in-depth look at the effects of electronic games on preteens and teenagers. She has served as a health behavior consultant to a number of non-profit organizations and corporations, as well as to government health agencies in the United States and in Europe. She is also an award-winning video producer and writer. They have been married for 20 years, and have a teenage son who plays video games. Some Myths MYTH: The growth in violent video game sales is linked to the growth in youth violence — especially school violence — throughout the country.FACT: Video game popularity and real-world youth violence have been moving in opposite directions. Violent juvenile crime in the United States reached a peak in 1993 and has been declining ever since. School violence has also gone down. Between 1994 and 2001, arrests for murder, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assaults fell 44 percent, resulting in the lowest juvenile arrest rate for violent crimes since 1983. Murder arrests, which reached a high of 3,800 in 1993, plummeted to 1400 by 2001. MYTH: Girls don’t play violent video games like Grand Theft Auto.FACT: Our survey of more than 1200 middle school students found that 29 percent of girls who played video games listed at least one M-rated game among the games they’d “played a lot” during the previous six months. One in five specifically listed a Grand Theft Auto game. In fact, among these 12- to 14-year-old girls, the Grand Theft Auto series was second only to The Sims in popularity. MYTH: Within hours of the 2007 shootings at Virginia Tech, pundits were on the airwaves and the Internet blaming video games for Seung-Hui Cho’s violent behavior. For example, media darling and pop psychologist Phil McGraw, appearing on CNN’s Larry King Live, stated, “Common sense tells you that if these kids are playing video games, where they’re on a mass killing spree in a video game, it’s glamorized on the big screen, it’s become part of the fiber of our society.... The mass murders [sic] of tomorrow are the children of today that are being programmed with this massive violence overdose.” Former Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate Mitt Romney, in an address to new graduates of Regent University, said, “Pornography and violence poison our music and movies and TV and video games. The Virginia Tech shooter, like the Columbine shooters before him, had drunk from this cesspool.”FACT: The official report of the Virginia Tech Review Panel specifically dismissed the purported links between Cho’s use of video games and his extremely violent behavior. In the chapter on Cho’s mental health history, video games are mentioned on only three pages. When he was nine years old, “he was enrolled in a Tae Kwon Do program for awhile, watched TV, and played video games like Sonic the Hedgehog. None of the video games were war games or had violent themes.” (p. 32) In college, “Cho’s roommate never saw him play video games.” (p. 42) During his senior year of college, his roommate “never saw him play a video game, which he thought strange since he and most other students play them.” (p. 51) MYTH: In August 2005, the American Psychological Association issued a resolution on violence in video games and interactive media, stating that “perpetrators go unpunished in 73 percent of all violent scenes, and therefore teach that violence is an effective way of resolving conflict.”FACT: The allegation that “perpetrators go unpunished in 73 percent of all violent scenes” is based on research from the mid-1990s that looked at selected television programs, not video games. MYTH: School shooters fit a profile that includes a fascination with violent media, especially violent video games.FACT: The U. S. Secret Service intensely studied each of the 37 non-gang and non-drug-related school shootings and stabbings that were considered “targeted attacks” that took place nationally from 1974 through 2000. (Note how few premeditated school shootings there actually were during that 27-year time period, compared with the public perception of those shootings as relatively common events!) The incidents studied included the most notorious school shootings, such as Columbine, Santee and Paducah, in which the young perpetrators had been linked in the press to violent video games. The Secret Service found that that there was no accurate profile. Only 1 in 8 school shooters showed any interest in violent video games; only 1 in 4 liked violent movies. AlienSlof I felt sorry for your predicament if people don't like your mods they should just say so, but not insult you about it or don't download in the first place.I hope you don't get too much more flaming. worm82075
Very interesting information, thanks for that. As far as AlienSlof getting flammed, that is a thing of the past because with the new rating system you will find that you can no longer comment on her mods. If you would like to praise her for them you can do so on her site in an e-mail only. Thanks again for the very enlightening information.
Guest MobMessenjah
Hey, I've admired Slof's work for a long time. The male-male isn't my thing but I saw the artistic value in it none-the-less. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and everyone is of different opinion and taste. In the past, I found the Slof was very giving of her art and her work to others and was a great and talented artist, certainly in her own right. I hope she doesn't give up due to some idiot making such comments. On the ban thing, I would say a month ban for 1st offense. I know, maybe this sounds a bit lax, but lets say someone realizes their mistake and does decide to make themselves into a real part of the community. A month should give them plenty of time to mull over their actions and to come back with a new attitude. If not, they will get bored, forget the argument and never come back anyway. I also agree that they should have access to files and the like but should not have access to the forum/rating portion of the site. Second offense to such person, is a PermaBan. :) By the way, I'm new here. :) I better go make a welcome post or something.
tungol
This is my first time on the forums, so Hi to all!I was glad to see a tribute to AlienSlof; she definitely deserves it. Though I am coming to it a bit late, I see.I think the great thing about you, Slof, is that you speak of yourself as a learner, as someone who doesn't really know what she's doing. And then we see your amazing textures and your other work (Until I read one of your posts in this thread, I thought you were an old hand at modeling!)--I'm just trying to say its very encouraging. Basically, you demonstrate that if we can imagine it, we can do it, no matter how meager our skills. When I found your horse pack, I was seriously disappointed that I couldn't rate/comment. Talent of that level demands some kind of tribute. I'm not even a horse-lover, my characters don't use horses; but I sat staring slack-jawed when I found it. It's not just impressive; its encouraging. And that encouragement enriches the community even beyond the value of your mods themselves.[And since this is my first post, I'd also like to point out that applies to all you other modders as well, no matter how meager your skills. Thanks!]And one thing that astonishes me more than your imagination and technical skill is the amazing magnanimity you've shown by hosting your mods ON YOUR OWN DIME.Anyway, thanks! And its good to see you're back on TES Nexus. Because I hate to think of you paying so that we can enjoy your talent for free.
SpacemanSpIiff
AlienSlof Does great work, i admire her textures and most of all her meshes very much. They are all expertly done and do not deserve the bashing they got from anyone. She did a very respectable thing in my mind with going down the same path with her clothing/armor style that you find an over abundance of for women. And its a shame to see all these individuals flame it because its not to their tastes. its certainly not to mine, but i never screamed blasphemy when i came across them. I really just wish people would grow up a bit and respect the work that was done, regardless of if its something theyll download. Thats just my $0.02, that im sure everyone in this thread has already said. Thank you Alienslof for your work. know that there are far more that respect your work then those that flamed it :thanks: (btw, welcome to our forums tungol and Mobmessenjah)
DirTek
I need to say this. I am a male, I am 19 years old and I am straight (most people think that Slof's armors are made for gay (sorry if I am not allowed to say that)) but when I saw Slof's armor they just flipped my mind. At first I saw the Giger Armor...I said in my mind: THAT'S A MUST HAVE...after that the Daedric Armour and now I am ending up with a project in my mind to download all of her mods. As for those who don't respect her work they are just mind closed. I really hate it when a great modder just like her has to deal with some kids who don't know anything about making mods. THANK YOU SLOF FOR YOUR GREAT MODS!!!! :thanks:

zappa45
I am relatively new to modding but I am aware of the difficulty involved in creating a simple mod much less some of the beautiful and complicated mods made by Alienslof. I applaud her work and wish her the best. Seeing all of the outrage connected to the release of Bethesdas Horse Armor MOD which cost around 3.00 to download I would think that even the most immature people on the web would try to encourage ALL modders in their art and be happy that they can get such amazing additions to their game for free. No modder should be belittled for trying to create new content to broaden the gaming experience for EVERYONE. Thank you Alienslof
Tamujiin
After seeing the last few pages of comments here on this thread i do say thanks for putting your stuff back online slof. I knew if enough people posted here you would at least think about it. And of course i knew about your site, but I hope you get what i mean. Thanks again for everything. jaysus
its a sad time i came to know her mods back during morrowind... and even tho i never really loved her mods like some others do she is an always was one of the famous modders of the TES universe (if you like her mods or not)... she herself made quite some accomplishments regarding scripting and modding in general... and even though i understand her move i find it rather pitiful as she, the mighty slof retreats cause some jerks didnt learn to communicate... even tho her name is well known by most tesnerds now she might become forgotten... also slofy do you think its fair to take away your mods from all of us? all those that adore and need you? ya there are some jerks but they are everywhere and at any given time... think of all these people who will feel left alone now, think of your fans! lets keep her name up and hope shell find her way back and descend down to earth to bring us some new mods and techniques
