[LE] How to generate 1/16 & 1/32 LOD in Oscape? Check-boxes for them are greyed out...

Recommended Posts

Are you sure you ticked Feature Map, and Surface Map, on the first page in Oscape. I have used Oscape and TES5LodGen many times and never had an issue. All the necessary files are always generated.

Screen shots of all his settings may be helpful.

I just did a clean run-through again, and took some screenshots. They're in this google drive folder. With any luck, I really will have been missing something obvious this whole time, and once it's spotted the rest will be easy. The target max. res. was chosen because I figured that staying as close to vanilla as possible, at least until I get it working, seems like a good idea. As in the screenshots, I've been checking the feature and surface boxes. The big thing I see here is the preview coming up blank, and (maybe related, idk?) the file select fields looking for .pts files. I don't have any .pts files, so they're blank. I tried to make some with this thing, but it gave a "could not start application properly (0x0000079 error, and exited.

For your target of max resolution try the 256,000 and only select one resolution (1024x1024 is generally good enough) and untick ocean basin. Give that a go.

Also I take it the Sealevel and Landlevel in Oscape match your worldspace as you appear to have changed Sealevel.

As @agerweb said use (1/1 256,000) and also do not change the land or sea levels in Oscape. I have always had success when leaving those settings alone even if they don't match my world spaces. Try not ticking wavefront also.

I noticed in the 3rd pic overwrite is ticked

It is recommended that you manually remove all generated files before regenerating LOD files so there are no remains of faulty files that may not be overwritten.

Things can be a bit strange and not always work the way logic dictates. I have always built my worldspaces in the CK itself and could be why it is when I change the land or sea levels it goes wonky. But I have always used Oscape and TES5LODGen for my LODs. I'm fooling around with L3DT right now just because I like to learn new things and it may be easier and faster than world building in the CK. I may find that the things I've done in the past might not work doing things differently.

I do delete the old files before i go to try a new generate. I just keep the overwrite ticked in case I catch the idiot ball and forget something. When I bring it into oscape, it misreads the sea level (but not the land level), and the positive co-ordinate max (but not the negative). I double-checked in TESVEdit that I had the co-ordinates right, and it's definitely the size I thought. So I usually correct Oscape's -64x-64/60x60 to the actual size of -64x-64/63x63, and the sea level from 0 to -5000.

I just tried it again, once with changing the sea level and once without, and unfortunately, neither worked. I couldn't find a 256000 1:1 setting, just a 256000 1:4 setting, so I used that. I continued correcting the cell size; it seemed too important to let be incorrect. Still no luck. :/

Just looked at your pics again and one thing has me a bit confused. Normally Sealevel is 0 and your default land height is usually a negative number below the sea. Yours is set to -5000 for sea level and 50000 for Landlevel giving you a range of 55000 which may be to high, and could be your problem. Try setting your Sealevel to 0 and your Landlevel to -5000 and see what happens.

I just generated land LOD for a test world space I'm working on and everything worked fine. The Heightmap was built with L3DT, passed through TESAnnwyn, and the CK.
