Syn3r
I'm working on a companion mod to give you 2 roboscorpions I'm having trouble figuring out how to change their color I need one to be red and black and the other white and gold. I know how to use the Geck fairly well but I have no idea how to accomplish this. Any help would be appreciated. -JT a.k.a Syn
dubiousintent
Color is an aspect of the texture file (*.dds; technically the "diffuse texture" or "color map"), so you would need to change that in Blender or similar. See the "Blender" section in the "Getting started creating mods using GECK" wiki article for links to the tool set and beginner tutorials. -Dubious-
Deleted1205226User
I believe Dubious is meaning Gimp, Paint.net (both free) or any other graphic application such a Photoshop. These are the tools used for creating/modifying textures. Blender would be used for altering the 3D object (the mesh).
Syn3r
How exactly do I do that, if you could give me a link or something I'd be grateful. Thanks.
dubiousintent
Oops. Pixelhate is correct. I was pushing a deadline and failed to double-check. There are links to the Paint.net and GIMP programs in the "Programs and Tools" section of the same article I linked earlier. See the "Creature Creation" section for related tutorials. -Dubious-
Deleted1205226User
If you are new to Modding I recommend that you read the article linked by Dubious, it contains many useful tips and links. Have a look at the texturing section of the Wiki as well. As for your specific question, I can't make a very detailed explanation now but I'll try to give the main steps. 1. You have to locate the original textures of the roboscorpion in the Textures - BSA. 2. Extract them 3. Make the modification of the texture in the graphic app of you choice and save as .dds with a unique name. 4. Place your modified textures inside a created folder with your mod name, place that folder in Data/textures/creatures 5. Place the unmodified textures (normal, glow map) in your Data folder following the original structure 6. Open Geck, create a new Texture Set, make the Diffuse pointing to your modified texture and the other textures pointing to the original ones. 7. Create an unique instance of the creature (with an unique name), make it use your new texture set. 8. Remove the unmodified textures from point 5 (not needed anymore) 9. Place the Creature in game, save, test in game. !! Never use Texture Sets on Furniture, it will make your esp crash as well as the Geck. Always make back-up before making any changes. Syn3r
Ok, thanks for the help. Any tips for changing the color easier than just using the fill all thing that doesn't fill the piece I'm working on.
Blacksoul501
seems like it would be easier to just make a new texture with gimp and then change it in nifskope by changing the dds.
Jokerine
I've been thinking of writing a tutorial for unique creatures to help with stuff like this. Maybe I should...
