EternalDarknessReigns
I was watching some "Pandemic Obscurum" game play and was captivated by the custom billboards, spray painted graffiti and so forth spread throughout the Mojave and wanted to do the same but I have no idea on how to do so, I have limited knowledge with programming and know how to use simple GECK edits such as adding in objects and items from resources. Could anyone give a simple run down on how to import an image and create custom flags (such as http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/46514/? but without the animation) or posters? madmongo
You need a program that can edit dds image files. The most popular is probably GIMP. You'll need to install the dds plugin to make it work. I personally prefer Paint.Net, which is not the Paint that comes with Windows, but it is free to download. In my opinion, GIMP is a bit more powerful in what it can do, but Paint.Net is more intuitive and easier to use. Which one you use really just comes down to personal preference, though. They can both do the job. You will also need a program called NifSkope. Somewhere on the nexus (might be under Oblivion, I can't remember), there's a package that has Blender 2.49b and all of the right versioins of the nif tools you need to make it work, including NifSkope. Blender is probably a bit over your head at the moment. I think you can just download NifSkope by itself somewhere, but you'll have to be careful of the version. If you want to make something like a new flag, the easiest thing to do is use the BSA extractor that comes with FOMM to extract the existing flag model's nif and dds files. Put these in your own folders under meshes and textures respectively. Edit the flag texture with your new flag, and save that to whatever you want to name your flag texture. Then edit the nif with NifSkope to use that texture. Now go into the GECK and double click on the existing flag to edit it. Give it a new ID so that you won't overwrite the existing flag, then change the model to your new nif. Place your flag somewhere in the world, and save your mod. Since all you are doing is changing the texture, the flag will still be animated. Follow the same basic procedure to make your own posters.
