toketsupuurin
So I'm a newb when it comes to modding. I've done some reading on the basics (I think) and I can unpack a bsa and I use MO. I have yet to attempt using Wryebash. But I recently ran across Wyrmstooth. Now I have the last release that's gotten any attention (1.16) and checked file sizes that have been posted in various forum threads and everything checks out to my satisfaction on that one. I'm reasonably comfortable with trying to install it. That's not my problem. When I found in my research was the "Wyrmstooth 1.17A.zip" file on archive.org. It was uploaded by someone using the Jonx0r name. (Do a creator search if you're interested. I'm not posting a link because it's Wyrmstooth.) I know very little about modding, so I'm really unsure if this file passes the sniff test or not. But I would like to play the latest version of Wyrmstooth. (Easy version of my question: has anyone played that version and did it seem safe and legit?) So my question to the nexus community is: As a newb, what steps do I have to take to reasonably ensure a questionable mod is safe? I don't care about stable. I don't even care about functional. I'm not even worried about save bloat at this point. I mean "not likely to contain any scripts that could make skyrim eat my machine." (Is that even possible with papyrus?) I am technically minded, so I don't have a problem downloading and using tools that can be arcane or finicky, and I'm not afraid to look at an uncompiled script. I've not found a topic for this particular issue and my searches have come up dry. (Perhaps it's just because this isn't actually an issue at all. I don't know, that's why I ask.) HeyYou
Download it, open up the archive, and see what is contained therein. If it looks right, go ahead and give it a shot. Papyrus scripts can't do anything to your machine. They can crash the game, but, that's fixable. :D
