FO4 CTD on fast travel to the institute?

Hey everyone. So I just got to the institute quests on my modded play through of FO4,. I fast traveled out after The Molecular Level to drop some junk into sanctuary, and now I cant get back into the institute. I am trying to start the quest titled "synth Retention" But my game keeps CTD'ing from the loading screen while fast traveling TO the institute to start the quest. I have tried fast traveling to other locations and it works fine. but No matter where I fast travel to the institute from, I have gotten CTD's. I am not running any Institute mods, so I am curious if I caused an issue somewhere with my Load Order.

this has happened to me and I've had to abandon the save.

 

for a while you might be able to get back to the institute by deleting ALL but the last save, but after a while it will crash at any load screen within the Institute (going from the Atrium to one of the labs or vice versa or loading a save within the Institute).

 

I was hoping that I could fix it in Fallrim Tools, but the save wouldn't even load into that for cleaning and neither would any of the saves that had been "working" previously.

So I need to go back before ever entering the institute and just replay? I may have messed it up because I left without agreeing to join the institute at all...

I don't think it has anything to do with agreeing to join or not.

on my first visit to the Institute I saved just after I got there and then exited the game. I could not get that save to load so I went back to a previous save, went through the initial visit then off to collect a synth and do some side missions, left the Institute with no problem. saved. no problem. did missions, saved, back to Institute, saved, exited game.

save inside Institute crashed, previous save loaded, so enter Institute, fine, collect rewards, start next mission and side quests, leave Institute.

do Bunker Hill and Talk to Father, go to Institute, crash.

deleted all but last save.

talk to father, go to Institute, no problem (?), go to meeting, no prob, go to collect side mission reward in Lab, crash.

edit to add that this is my OLD load order from the game I had to abandon. I have since reassessed which mods I am going to use and sorted the load order.

fingers crossed I have my new load order sorted correctly and I'll be able to deal with the Institute.

edit to add that this is my OLD load order from the game I had to abandon. I have since reassessed which mods I am going to use and sorted the load order.ÃÂ

fingers crossed I have my new load order sorted correctly and I'll be able to deal with the Institute.

I'm still a newb when it comes to load orders, and modding in general, but if you want to post up a current load order, I might be able to help in some way? I've read at length on the topic, but I'm sure you have as well. Here are the general guidelines I follow and it seems to work ok (except for my current issue with the institute)

I think I've got a handle on getting my load order sorted thanks :)

I only posted my old load order as it was experiencing the exact same issue as you.

maybe there is something there that jumps out as obvious when comparing them, maybe not.

 

I have a feeling that I corrupted my save by not using FO4Edit to sort masters and clean plugins and then messing around updating mods during the game as well as adding and removing mods.

 

when I checked back through looking for a save that wasn't corrupt, I found that it had corrupted before leaving vault 111 and I had played that save for over 150 hours until the problem manifested with CTDs fast traveling to the Institute or loading a save there.
