HoratioCaius
It's good that we have companions with personalities. But they not being able to die is a shame. Yes, you can make them un-essential, but they are so heavily bound into the game, that loosing them is not always fuctional. Skyrim's followers wasn't perfect, but atleast they could get killed in combat. It would be nice to actually have simple recruitebal (and maybe even respawning) mercenaries/faction members that could die. It would make combat more dramatic aswell. Being the general of the Minutemen, going into Quincy with five soldiers, and see them perish in combat. It would add a layer of dark realism, and more tactical combat to the game. And personally I would love it. Edited July 31, 2017 by HoratioCaius
jkruse05
If you don't mind the other changes Gunners Overhaul adds some hire-able mercenaries. Not sure if they are essential or not, but you should be able to safely set them to not be, they aren't tied to any quests or anything. Recruit 20 Followers or Any NPC as a Follower MIGHT also get you there. Edited August 1, 2017 by jkruse05
