QuentinVance
Hello there! Here I am, with another quest for you guys! So, I was building a quest and for the very first time I need to have the NPC say more than a line before the player can reply.First, I tried writing all of the lines in a single Topic, giving the first one a prompt by the player and then leaving the other "prompt" fields blank (sounded like a smart thing to do). Obviously that didn't work out, so I just tried to break the lines in three different Topics: the first one is added to the dialogue right after the greetingâ topic. Then, I left the other two's prompt fields blank and just used the "Linked from" button to link the third line to the second and the second to the first, which in turn (and this one works) is prompted by the player. What I expected to happen was this: player says its thing, NPC says line1, goes to line2 and ends saying line3. What actually happens is: player says its thing, NPC says line1, the dialogue goes back to its main section. I'm clearly missing something here, but what is it? EDIT: I'd also want to know how I can prevent the "Goodbye" dialogue option to appear in certain dialogues, such as when the player is in a situation in which he can't simply say "Okay, I'm out". QuentinVance
Okay well, a day has passed and in the meanwhile I decided to play a little with the game's other dialogues, found out the way to do this was to simply go under the Response Text tab, right click it and hit Add, then input the text as it was a normal Topic. That was actually pretty easy, I should have thought of it earlier.
dubiousintent
It helps to post your questions in the correct sub-forum. Different people check out different sections. The GECK users are usually found in the "GECK and Modders" section. "Mod Troubleshooting" usually deals with logic problems getting a mod to function correctly. "Mod Talk" is much more general in nature, such as people looking for a mod to do some particular thing. "Mod Requests" are for people with ideas but are hoping someone else will do the work. The "Technical Support" area is for working out why the game or a mod isn't working in someone's setup. There is some overlap, but it should be apparent why some people only have time for a few sub-forums. And 24 hours for a response is not unusual for a game that is 7 years old. There just aren't that many experienced players/modders still here. Good to hear you worked out your issue on your own. Those are the best lessons learned. -Dubious-
QuentinVance
Sure, I'm not expecting people to be waiting for me to me ask and then reply right away. Just thought someone could benefit from my "discovery".Next time I'll be sure to ask in the right section.
Mktavish
And to answer your sub question ... how to prevent "Goodbye topic" You use the choices field ... but the computer is smart and can see down the line. Which the conversation must end with a goodbye. Plus if your NPC meets the requirement for generic goodbye ... it will display. But choices with at least one of those leading to a goodbye (flagged goodbye) , should make the dialogue menu not display the default goodbye. And there is something about toplevel ... which is where I get fuzzy ... eeashh ... the dialogue interface is confusing
