meh12345
You can use the sifh 1 (or 0 to turn off) console command to toggle a single actor, but I'm not sure if there's something general. Although I've noticed that if I'm in a faction, they don't always mind friendly fire…

SinderionsBones
I would so get. Long story short, quite a while in the editor adding an option I can't remember to all applicable NPC's plus the one at a time enable/disable feature. This would be awesome. From a game play perspective you simply do not have enough control of your weapons to not hit your friends and allies... especially with spells. The "they don't mind" mechanic is insufficient. If this is like previous elder scrolls games, they will only ignore it for the first few hits. Many followers are immortal but can be killed while bleeding out by a stray attack from the player, making you spend ten minutes resurrecting them, re adding all the extra stuff and generally making an unnecessary pita.. This is the main reason some of my friends and I have basically said thanks but no thanks to the whole follower system. There are a few different ways to get NPC's to not be damaged by the player. As stated above I'm pretty sure this would have to be done individually. With a follower, this is no problem. When I hear a thief in a city, however, due to some bad experiences early on, as much as I want to run to them and kill them, I run the other direction. Several times while apparently alone with the thief, I've somehow hit a guard and got the whole hold mad at me with one swing that was nowhere near a friendly. This also applies whenever advancing the civil war line. If you're at all concerned with this, the immersion is ruined by not being able to join the battle fully. That being said, quest friendlies, followers, pets, guards(for good aligned players), and horses should all have this flag turned on. If you desperately need to kill them just use the console kill command, disable their protection, or don't get the mod in the first place.
