I have just started trying to use the ck to create my own follower. Everything goes well but they all have red foreheads. So i just went into CK and pulled up regular npc and viewed the head and it was red also.

Thanks for any help you could give me.

Easy. Open your character in the CK, go to the "Character Gen Parts" tab. In the Face Tint Layers box, select "FemaleUpperEyeSocket.dds" (or "MaleUpperEyeSocket.dds"). Then, under Face Tinting Color box, select "Color Average" from the Preset drop-down box. Close the Actor window, save your file, then Ctrl-F4 to export the head and you should be all set.

Edit: You should also have posted this in the Technical Support forum :)

It still didnt fix the problem. I followed step by step instructions on how to create a custom follower. so i created one and used SPF in the console to export it. everything went great but when i viewed it in the window by clicking head it had a red forehead. so i put them in game went and picked them up and they had a deep red forehead. so i went into the CK pulled up a random NPC and looked at the head withpout doing anything to it and they also had a redforehead. I tried what you said to do on the Ableone NPC and changed nothing else and viewed head and it was still red.

Skyrim I read the comment section of the tutorial I was using and my problem wasn't mentioned .I'm wondering if its a problem with my CK. I uninstalled my CK and that didn't fix the problem either. I doubled clicked on the ableone npc and clicked the head and it still comes up with a dark red forehead as if its painted on it.

This happens sometimes when you are using mods that improve the appearance of npcs. If you disable those mods before opening the CK and then Crtl+F4 to generate facegen data it usually solves the problem. Just when you are done with the CK re-enable the mods before playing the game.

Thanks for the help. I found out it was because I was using HD skin. I just had to go down the list and change everything with a tint .Who knew lip tint could make a forehead red lol . color average worked on everything but lips and it only had custom. So when I imported the face I selected the skin color it showed and used it and fixed the problem. I have another problem now there is a mod or something that keeps changing the looks of all the elves in my game. I uninstalled dawn guard and everything that needs it to work and none of those are causing it . its changing the foreheads and all, even on the normal skyrim npcs..

All the workarounds discussed so far involve removing your own ability to add most facetints to your NPC's, and that's not fun.

The real cause of this is using HD tintmask textures. They look pretty when you're creating your player character, but the CK can't use them.

THE ACTUAL FIX to this is, before you load the CK:

Go to textures/actors/character/character assets, find the folder named "tintmasks," and remove or rename it.

When you load the CK, it will default to the vanilla tintmasks and they will work flawlessly!

If you still want to use HD tintmasks on your player character, you can restore that folder after you're done modding. Personally, I deleted that s.o.b. and never looked back... because I do a lot of NPC modding, and the difference in game is barely even noticeable.

If you really, really, really, reallyreally want your HD facetints on an NPC, you can use RaceMenu to create the appearance you want in-game, export it, then use that texture file to replace the one the CK generated. Or you can use something like Photoshop or GIMP to open your facegen texture, scale it up and add detail.

Thanks nerdofprey

Once I got rid of the red forehead my problem was solved. Im new with CK just started playing around with creating npcs. Been playing skyrim since it came out just never tried to do anything with the CK.. I can create some beautiful npcs now .I just have to use the standard hair and eyes and brows. I'm sure there is a way to be able to use the other ones I just don't know how yet. I created some really beautiful elven ladies but ive downloaded a mod somewhere that changes the looks of them once I get them in the game. Sybil Stendar didn't use to have glowing yellow eyes and look like one of the vampires from dawnstar but she does now. When I go to pick up one of the elven ladies I created she looks great for a few seconds and then what ever that mod is makes them look ugly. I will find it (SMILE)
