Florentius
So I recently played Beyond Skyrim: Bruma and it got me into the Oblivion mood again but I wanted to add the OST from BSB to Oblivion because its bloody great and adds some variety. I downloaded the album here https://soundcloud.c...kyrim-bruma-ost They are in MP3 format and I added the tracks to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Oblivion\Data\Music in each music folder in which I saw fit. But sadly enough it doesn't work and only plays the original Oblivion music still Am I doing something wrong or do I need a mod for this? TheMastersSon
How are you testing to see if it works or doesn't work? Sometimes you have to trigger several (or more) music changes before one of your custom songs shows up. Also scan your system for any other \oblivion\data\music folders that may be lurking unknown. If Oblivion installs have ever been mixed (e.g. original disc install and then added Steam later etc) the pathing can wind up a real mess. It doesn't help that Steam uses non-Windows standard shortcuts to start itself and games, it intentionally makes tracking what programs are actually started (and which data folders are used) much harder than necessary. Also double check the MP3 format on these files, e.g. if they're tagged, use an older tag version or untag them entirely and see if it makes any difference. Final suggestion is to uninstall Oblivion and reinstall it into a custom folder, somewhere other than Windows' heavily protected "\Program Files (x86)" or other system folders. Installation into these folders causes problems because the game was developed before protected app folders were implemented in Windows. If you right-click/properties on your MP3 files, is there an option to unblock them? Edited August 19, 2017 by TheMastersSon
Florentius
How are you testing to see if it works or doesn't work? Sometimes you have to trigger several (or more) music changes before one of your custom songs shows up. I just placed all the custom music files in their respective data/music maps and started up oblivion and went into a city/wilderness/dungeon to see if they took effect. (which they didn't) Also scan your system for any other \oblivion\data\music folders that may be lurking unknown. If Oblivion installs have ever been mixed (e.g. original disc install and then added Steam later etc) the pathing can wind up a real mess. It doesn't help that Steam uses non-Windows standard shortcuts to start itself and games, it intentionally makes tracking what programs are actually started (and which data folders are used) much harder than necessary.I've only ever used the steam version and there are no multiple files.. My previous installation was completely modded and dated so I completely removed everything Oblivion related before reinstalling it.. So its a clean state with only a couple of texture mods. Also double check the MP3 format on these files, e.g. if they're tagged, use an older tag version or untag them entirely and see if it makes any difference. I removed tags from a couple of the sound files and only used these in the music maps but it made no difference in-game, sadly. Final suggestion is to uninstall Oblivion and reinstall it into a custom folder, somewhere other than Windows' heavily protected "\Program Files (x86)" or other system folders. Installation into these folders causes problems because the game was developed before protected app folders were implemented in Windows. I've never run into any issues regarding my oblivion placement ever before or in any other game I've modded/edited(skyrim, morrowind, dragon age etc) Not saying it is completely out of the question but I'd rather use this is a complete last resort. If you right-click/properties on your MP3 files, is there an option to unblock them? I didn't find anything of that description in there but I did see in details that security is turned off on them. If that is what you meant. --- Anyway, thanks for your reply and trying to help! I appreciate it.
TheMastersSon
Sorry nothing helped. You didn't post a mod list, have you tried disabling all your mods and starting a new game? I'm wondering if one of your mods is redirecting Oblivion's music folders to somewhere other than their vanilla locations. Do the standard folder names exist under \data\music (public, dungeon etc)? Just for a test I'd also try loading one of your custom MP3s into an audio editor and resaving it, just in case it's a MP3 format problem. If you copy any other MP3s into Oblivion's music folders (i.e. not the ones you saved from soundcloud), do they play?
