I'm new to modding

Hello.

I'm kind of new to this kind of thing and was wondering if someone could break this down for me, since I am not at all savvy with program files or moving things around into the right place, I didn't even need to with wow because of the curse client doing it for me.

I basicly want to load the mods to alter skin texture on male models, make them cleaner. I am currently playing skyrim on windows vista through steam.

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=2488#content

I download the mods, move them to what I think is the right folder, but nothing happens. I followed some youtube videos on what I was meant to do, but it didn't help.

I can say though, I did download a mod when I first got skyrim to have my character have no underwear on him when he removed his armor, no additional texture, it was just the same model but without his underwear.

Did I do something wrong, was I meant to delete this mod I first installed?

Make sure you have installed all of the textures to the correct location, generally: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim\Data\Textures\actors\character when running from steam. I don't use that mod myself, so I i'm only assuming the naked part is because you installed the mesh, and or esp.

Mods are generally packaged with all of the appropriate folders (beyond \Skyrim\Data\ at least) so simply placing the \textures\ folder from the mod's archive into your \Data\ directory should do the trick. If it's still not working, chances are you're experiencing a Windows UAC issue. UAC has been known to interfere with mods since way back in the days of Morrowind on Vista...

Here's my general post on UAC:

If you're on Vista/7, Steam (and therefore Skyrim) is installed in the default (C:\Program Files) location, and you're having problems with replacers or simply mods (plugins) not working at all, even though you've activated them in NMM, or mods refusing to deactivate, even though all of their files have been removed, then you most likely have a UAC problem. It is possible to turn off UAC though it's not recommended for the vast majority of Windows users. To get around UAC without turning it completely off you'll need to move Steam to a location UAC does not affect (C:\Games\ is a commonly used location). This will most likely break any 3rd party utilities such as NMM as it will leave old registry keys behind that point to the location you originally installed Skyrim in. If you come across this issue, you'll have to uninstall Skyrim, clean the old registry keys, reboot, then reinstall Skyrim. I personally recommend using Revo Uninstaller as if you uninstall Skyrim through it, it will automatically scan for and ask if you'd like to delete old registry keys. If you're interested in keeping your old mods, config files, and/or saved games, tips found in Bben's Oblivion Reinstall Procedure work for Skyrim as well.

Here's my general post on UAC:

But let's say you already have UAC completely disabled. Then what? For example, I have a textures mod (Skyrim 2k HD to be precise) that isn't showing up at all even though I have them in the data folder AND I have them in a textures folder within just to cover my bases. In the "data files" menu in the launcher they're all enabled, as well as in the NMM. If I turn it off, it says my save is missing files. And yet, there is still nothing showing up even though it all seems to be okay.

I'm like two seconds away from just redownloading the 3 GB mod and seeing what happens.

Sorry for hijacking your thread, but maybe any answer I get could help you as well.

Are you also experiencing low quality (blurry) textures in general? If so, you should try going into your graphics card's control panel and making sure that Texture Filtering is on Quality or High Quality, not Performance or lower. You may have general settings in one place, and then specific settings for Skyrim, so make sure you're messing with settings for Skyrim.

Also, Skyrim HD's .bsa archives belong in the \Data\ directory as they already contain the rest of the file structure the game looks for resources in. Placing these archives in the \Data\textures\ folder is just eating unnecessary hard drive space. .bsa archives are a completely different subject than replacer textures.

If none of the above helps I recommend getting a simple texture replacer (something like this) and installing it via it's instructions to see if it's working. If so, then your issue with Skyrim HD is coming from the plugin activation side of things...

I went in, and my setting was indeed on "performance". I set it on "high quality" for the time being, will check in-game and report findings. The graphics card I'm using is Nvidia Geforce 560m.

EDIT: Alright, it didn't work, thank you for the suggestion though. Hold on, I'll try the texture replacer as well and see what happens.

EDIT2: Yeah, no dice. I try to spawn them with player.additem 0005B6A1 and all I get is "clothes". Nooo idea. Does "Load Loose Files" have to be checked? Cause it won't stay checked.

"High Quality" <-- try that one... Performance and High Performance are known to cause major texture quality degradation in Skyrim (all games)... Edited by MShoap13

My bad, it was at "performance" and I changed it to "high quality". My inner dyslexic showing through :P
