StayFrosty05
Hello...I am very much a complete 'Noob' when it comes to computers, but am trying to learn...one of the many things I am trying to learn is how to download a mod manually, or more specifically, how to choose options given within a mod (textures, meshes, etc...)....I had a friend show me and write the process out for me, but I keep getting eternally stuck at the same stage....where exactly to place the 'texture', 'mesh' folders once I have chosen which 'texture', 'mesh' I want to apply? Is there some kind of visual tutorial anyone may know of that i can take a look at...something in which I can actually see where what goes where, instead of dooming some poor soul into trying to explain it to me?....Sadly explaining computers to me is akin to describing a water melon to a blind, deaf alien... :( ...but I am trying hard to learn....I love this modding and am hoping to learn to mod myself one day....a fantastic art. Unfortunately I won't be asking my friend to walk me though the process again, as he kinda decided to just take over my game mod choices instead....Skyrim remains my own and under my control....but he circumvented the NMM somehow with Fallout New Vegas to get my mods in...well it turns out mostly mods he wanted in my game (enhance my experience as such, but I have ended up with a game I don't enjoy) and left half of my mod choices out.... :( ....the problem there is, because I don't know what he did to get those Mods in, I don't know how to get rid of them again....would just deleting them all work and importantly clear my game up for me to be able to go through NMM to download the Mods I want...essentially (hopefully) taking the game back to vanilla and start from the beginning again? One last question...many Fallout 3 (just bought it) and Fallout New Vegas mods state they require FOMM to download....from what I understand NMM is the replacement and will do the same job? Thank you for your time and patience...is very much appreciated. Edited March 3, 2012 by StayFrosty05

StayFrosty05
a well placed spelling error can be quite entertainingTrue.... ... By the way, would anyone have any suggestions as to any books I could be directed to?....''Guide for Dummies' type thing, very layman....to help me kick start a growing knowledge in the area of mods, I don't know what that would come under....was in the book store the other day looking at all the titles, with the sinking knowledge that I had absolutely no idea what I was looking at, or where to start looking. Fonger
By the way, would anyone have any suggestions as to any books I could be directed to?...you could read through the wiki http://wiki.tesnexus.com/ remember the basics for installing mods for Oblivion, Fallout3 and Fallout New Vegas area all the same(some small specific changes like Wrye Bash ~ Gary Bash ~ Wrye Flash ; OBMM -> FOMM <-> NMM) and all 3 use the same BOSS

I have just been attempting to plow my way through the other links and discovered 'ArchiveInvalidation'....I do in fact have texture problems in both 'Skyrim' and 'Fallout NV'...in 'Skyrim' I sometimes get the solid purple instead of armor (solid purple dragon once too and sometimes trees) and that very soon leads to a CTD (my Skyrim is prone to CTD), I had assumed it was completely a matter of wrong order with my Mods, still haven't been sure how to correct that though, but am now aware my 'ArchiveInvalidation' thing is obviously a problem too (basically vanilla game and mod arguing over what's meant to be there)...I followed the instruction given (going for the most recommended version), but NMM doesn't offer that choice? I found the drop down bar, but no choices were given, just a click 'OK' or not....I chose not to, erring on the side of caution as I don't know exactly what I would be giving the OK too.....As for Fallout, it doesn't CTD like Skyrim does, but I do find NPC's missing their bodies, only heads, hands and feet there...caused by the same issue, if I am understanding correctly. Can I use NMM for Fallout and Oblivion? The friend tried to download FOMM in a variety of ways, but it refused to do so...he ended up telling me I would have to uninstall NMM to have FOMM, but then I would loose my Skyrim Mods ....I'm not prepared to do that and I am assuming plenty of people are having no issues running all these games on their PC's with their mods....I was reading Dark One's NMM/FOMM thread, from what I could understand NMM does replace FOMM?...Another issue the friend bought up was I could be having problems downloading FOMM because this is a family computer and as such we each have our own accounts and my hubby has the master account, not I. Fonger
get a check mark beside that archive invalidation entry under NMM for any game it supports without exactly 1 form of archive invalidation, no texture will change from base game -- or will be that peculiar purple  BTW don't install anything to the default location under Windows 7 or Vista otherwise UAC will slowly devour your life and NMM takes over many functions of FOMM -- for what it doesn't ---> use Wrye Flash (Vegas) - Gary Bash (FO3) and Wrye Bash (Oblivion) Edited March 4, 2012 by Fonger
