EverChosen97
Sortish long story ahead but hear me out. Around the start of the year I began a modded survival playthrough with no prior modding experience with any game ever. Everything went fairly smoothly until about 20 hours in, when I discovered that a diamond city overhaul I installed was not working properly and causing massive chunks of diamond city to disappear. I uninstalled that mod trying to fix the problem only to make things worse. Almost all weapons I used became invisible when equipped, made no sound when fired, and did not damage enemies at all. Other small problems appeared but too many bother recounting but I now believe it could've been a problem with archive invalidation. Being a complete noob to modding I had no idea what to do or how to fix it, so I did the only thing I could; uninstall everything, begin a new game and start from scratch. But that didn't work. My guns appeared again but still did not damage enemies for some reason. Police baton, 10mm it didn't matter. Nothing. So I gave up and played some other games until now, namely the classic fallout games for the first time (1&2). Now after a highly successful, fully modded play through of FNV/TTW, I'm back to fallout 4. Now that I know how to actually mod my games properly now I'm going to try my hands at fallout 4 again. But I want everything with to be fresh. Completely vanilla. What things do I need to do and go over to completely reset the game and its files so that everything is vanilla, with no modded assets in any of the files? I've already reinstalled the whole game and deleted any old save files and deleted and restored the game folder using steam. Any thing else I should check? Thanks in advance! Ipodk9
1. Find the Nexus Mods Folder and the Nexus Install Info Folder, one has the info(As in sidebar and update and Nexus pieces) of the mods, one has the actual files themselves. You need to uninstall both for NMM and FO4 to know that they are gone. They can be found by launching NMM in fallout 4 mode, then click open folders, and you have a drop down of them. 2. Delete the Fallout4 Folder in C:\Users\(Yourname)\Documents\My Games\Fallout4 this folder has save data, some mod data, and some other stuff that you'll want reset. 3. Reinstall FO4 and you're good to go.
EverChosen97
So just simply delete both of the nexus folders?
skubblebubble
If you have deleted the FO4 folder completely and your saves, whatever is in the NMM folder won't matter. You'd have to reinstall the mods from there. If you just launch the game, there should be no mods active. In NMM if you check the plugins tab, there should only be the game files, save for your FO4/data folder. I've done that many many times. sopmac45
This is what I do when reinstalling the whole thing again : - Deactivate all mods and permanent uninstall them from NMM - Uninstall the game via Steam- Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Fallout4 and delete the entire folder- Go to C:\Documents\My Games\Fallout 4 and delete the entire folder- Use the "search" tab by right clicking on the Windows Icon ( bottom left of your desktop ) and type : fallout 4 ... that way your computer will tell you if there is something still remaining in your hard drive ... make sure everything related to this game has been deleted- Empty recycle bin- Restart your computer- Install the game again via Steam- In NMM now you will see ( in the plugins section ) your game and DLC's - Use LOOT and clean your game files using FO4Edit- Start the game ( without any mods ) and do a hard save after you meet at least with your robot. - Go to where your fallout 4 game is located in your hard drive. You will see now that there are 3 files : Prefs.ini, Custom.ini and fallout4.ini .... add to Prefs.ini and your custom.ini those lines necessary to be able to use mods ( check google to find what those files are - do not remember now - )- Start installing mods via NMM- Play your game Good luck .. EverChosen97
Everythings all good! Runs even better then before now since I know how to sort a load order and make merge patches. A few CTD's every now and then but that cant really be helped when it comes to modding. Thanks all :)
