TyrisBel
Ok so I wanted to do a clean install of skyrim and CK without all the mods/textures etc Id been playing with, so uninstalled both and reinstalled. but when I copied the mod I was making all its scripts were gone, as in I could no longer access them in CK. Now I knew scripts were stored seperatly and it was stupid of me not to back them up but it got me thinking. Which files do we upload to workshop/nexus and which files do we backup when we want to continue working on a mod? can anyone break it down for me? ScarabMonkey
If you always create an archive in the CK, then you can just back that up - it will include the psc and pex files by default.
TyrisBel
Thanks! Using BSAopt I opened up my BSA and found my scripts, so I can extract and edit them now

David Brasher
Alas, the CK archive function usually doesn't work. Out of 7 mods I wanted to archive using the CK, only two of them would work. So if you build the sort of mods I build, then you are going to have to do a lot of manual packaging.
TyrisBel
what sort of mods would require special packing?
David Brasher
Some mods with scripts (more especially those that edit scripts rather than just adding new ones,) mods with sounds, mods that encounter errors that the Bethesda folks left in Skyrim.esm and therefore prevent completion of the archiving process. It is abominable how poorly the CK archiving function works. And since you can only upload CK archived mods to Steam Workshop, this means that it is a big joke and hardly any mods can be uploaded there. TyrisBel
yeah it's frustrating how limited workshop is, the irony is my mod seems much more popular on there than it does on Nexus, I suspect because of the lack of competition
