Joshua Graham armor quick change (I think)

In my opinion the skinny jeans with a hole in them and stripper style boots do not really go well with the extremely badass rest of the set that the player can wear. I just spent a couple hours trying to figure out how to mashup the ncr ranger jeans and boots with the set in NifSkope but failed when I couldn't get textures to load or figure out which texture set to use. I'm sure I could eventually figure it out but was wondering if someone else would be able to much quicker than me. Thanks for any input and if you aren't willing to make it but are willing to help I have a couple questions.

In NifSkope, I try to set the texture file path the C/.../Fallout New Vegas/Data but all that ends up getting rendered are parts that show skin. All of the other parts remain to have unrendered textures. Any fix for this?

Don't use an "absolute path" (i.e. "C:\<steam install path>\FalloutNew Vegas\Data\Textures\<subfolder>") when pointing in the NIF file to the textures. It needs to be "relative" to the "Data" folder (i.e. "textures\<subfolder>") instead. See wiki article "How to change hard-coded texture paths in Nif files".

Also, you need a minimum of two texture files: the "Diffuse Map" (aka "Color Map"; extension "*.dds") and the "Normal Map" (aka "Bump Map"; extension "*.n.dds"). See the "NIF" entry in the TESTG Glossary.

Technically, you don't need a normal map. That just adds more detail to the 3d model.

If you are mixing and matching parts though, they'll already have a nice normal map available, so go ahead and use it. It makes things look more detailed and better.

If you are mixing and matching parts from two models in NifSkope, you shouldn't need to change the textures. It may be that the different pants use the same basic model, but probably not. It also helps if the pants and boots are different models than the top. If the pants and top are part of the same mesh, then you can't just mix and match in NifSkope. You need to do some editing with a 3-d modeling program like Blender.

ETA: I looked at several ranger outfit models in NifSkope and also the Joshua Graham model, and they all include the shirt, pants, and boots all in one mesh. The meshes are also not based on the same models. They are completely different. You can't do this in NifSkope.

You can´t do this in Nifskope.

I made a quick test here and Ranger pants don´t look like the best choice.

Unless someone creates a new texture for the pants. I particularly do not know how.

Thanks for all of the replies everyone. I don't think I have quite the ability to learn this stuff, but I'll keep trying. I understand now that this can't be done in NifSkope, and also that that combination of clothes won't really work without texture work which is just another layer of information that would take a long time for me at least to understand. If anyone is still willing to try I think the prewar parkstroller outfit is another option without the dark texture (meshes/armor/1950stylecasual02/outfitm.nif.

Which NCR ranger outfit were you interested in? There's the NCR Ranger combat armor which has blue jeans and the NCR Ranger Civilian outfits which are colored brown instead of blue.

Also not a good choice. Male only, but the main problem is that the pants are too short.

It can be attached, but when you stretch a mesh a lot, the textures stretch too, it sucks.

Haha, I really have no idea what would work apparently, but just that weird skinny stripper pants don't. I also have no idea what the timeframe is for "quick edits" but either way thanks a lot for the work you did. Again I just realized that I don't know exactly what would work, but you get the idea I think - normal looking pants. If you're still willing I would love to see this mod happen but I'm afraid I don't have any more meaningful input to give.
