Tamb0
Hi folks, for some reason, all of the 'in-game' buildings seem to have their doorways blocked by a wall or an in built door.I need a exterior building without a blocked doorway. Does anybody know of any ? Has anybody modified any of the in-game meshes to take the door/wall away? If so, how did you achieve it. Does anybody know how to take them away. I've never created my own meshes/textures for any game and always used the default game objects. This is the first time I'm modding a Bethesda game, and boy, they don't half make it awkward. I mean seriously, why have a dooway in an exterior building, then block it ? Do they think the modder can't place their own door there ? :wallbash: See below Does anybody know a solution ? [Edit] terrible picture, uploaded another. Edited March 6, 2012 by Tamb0
PaladinRider
You are supposed to place your own door in front to teleport you to the interior cell. This is to make it easier because if you placed a door that wasn't lined up properly you would see bright white or it would look off along the edges. You do know that without the door or collision the player wouldn't see the inside of the building, right? You'd be able to see through the building into the other side. Tamb0
...You do know that without the door or collision the player wouldn't see the inside of the building, right? You'd be able to see through the building into the other side.I understand that. What I want to do is build an interior inside, so that when you open the door, you see and enter the interior. There will be no teleport. I'm trying to cut down on load screens, so it makes sense to incorporate an interior along with the exterior. It may be diffucult, but I'm sure I could manage. If only the doorway wasn't blocked Look at DweFarm01Ext. This is the kind of thing I need, but it dousn't fit in with what I have planned and it's too small. If it had another doorway inside, for further expansion, then I could possibly change my plans. But alas... :(
PaladinRider
I understand. There are also other problems you will encounter. Most interior statics are actually larger than the exterior building. Some by a good amount. Also, many of the interior spaces have beams or other objects that protrude well past the walls. The blocked doorway is probably the tip of the issue. I think the better method is to have the door open into a lit animated space then teleport to the space. But I'm being negative I guess so all the best I think it's a good idea non-the-less. the7thguest
I figured out, that sometimes you need to use parts like they are NOT ment to be used... An Example for your problem:- Take a house you like and place it in your cell.- Build another floor below the existing house with dungeon walls (eg stone walls would fit great for an cellar part)- in this floor you can place your own wall with a door space, which will let you enter your built house.- the existing door of your house will now be in first floor, try to hide it with some textures (a wall or a banner or something like that) Still you would have the problem, that you wont see the outer texture from inside so what you will have to do is to create a seperate inner cell and put em together with something like a small lobby area (even if only 1mm, you gonna need some room between exterior house and inner cell rooms. Will be a very hard piece of work.If I had to do this, I would start with the ground floor like described above. Then I would select this ground floor and dupe all the walls and pull em a little away from the "house". There I would start to turn the single textures 180° so I get an INNER room with the same walls like outside. Now give a s*** on exact placing and pull the items 1 pixel in each other which will make the inner rooms a little smaller than the outside house. The free space between the house and inner room I'd fill with a piller or anyting similar. Still a lot of work just to avoid a loading screen... Tamb0
Thanks for the suggestion. That sounds like a plan :D I'll give it a go and see what happens.
Tamb0
Everything started off great. A bit difficult, but I made slow progress. then came the time to add a staircase that would let me use the upper space as well. Started to build the second floor,...great, all going good. Finished most of second floor, add another staircse to third. (incase you're wondering, I'm building all this inside a big empty castle shell) Laid down the ceiling for second floor, which is the base of the third floor, and started placing the walls on the third (final) floor. It was getting a bit cramped trying to manouver pieces around, but I managed. By this time, I was getting a little excited about how good I't's going to look, so, before adding all the furniture, etc, I decided to take a little stroll around the place,...ingame. Loaded the cell up. Took a walk around the first floor, taking a note of some little details that needed attention. Proceeded to the staircase,....AaaaagggghhHalfway up the staircase, I could go no further. The castle shell has an invisible bottom !!! :wallbash: LOL, I spent hours making the second and third floor for nothing. Anyway I thought I'd post this and give you a laugh, and also a warning for anybody else stupid enough to try this
