Earthbound_X
I believe this bug started in Oblivion, I'm sure we all know about it. You just spent a few minutes, uncovering the whole local map for the city you just entered, after you're done, you open the map, and see a fairly large box, square, or new in Skyrim, other shapes and pattens of the "fog of war" recovering part of the map you just uncovered. Of course this just doesn't happen in certain areas, it happens in all local maps of any area. This has been in every Bethesda game since Elder Scrolls 4, Fallout 3, and NV, through Skyrim. I can't remember if it was also in Morrowind. Why can't Bethesda stop this from happening? It has to be one of the minor but most annoying bugs in their games for me.I figured that Skyrim wouldn't have it, since it was supposed to be on a new engine. So I ask, a question I have a feeling I've asked on every single Bethesda forum over the years, have there been any mods or bugfixes that fix this really really annoying bug? I'm gonna have to assume no, since there haven't been any mods that fix this bug in those other games, but I figured I should just ask to be sure. This must be a damn hard or impossible thing to fix, since we have mods that fix pretty much everything else. Thank you.
Earthbound_X
Figured that was the response I'd get, either this isn't a as widespread bug as I thought, or no one is annoyed by it as much as I am. But just in case, here's a few screens of the problem I'm talking about, in case people can't tell from my description. http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/1598/screenshot2fn.png http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/632/screenshot3mrt.png http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/637/screenshot4gq.png As you can see, there's those boxes/squares of the fog of war recovering the parts of the maps I've already explored. This happens all the time. jet4571
Theres a plane in all the dungeons that creates the fog of war. It is called "black plane" too. Easy enough to just delete it from the game altogether. Though doing that would remove fog of war altogether. And tfow makes it worse. When I type it everything disappeares.
scrivener07
Its a static object called BlackPlane01 (0x000F13C4). Its just a solid black square that has 'On Local Map' checked. Unchecking that box on the base object might do the trick.

Unchecking that box on the base object might do the trick. I just googled it 0x000F13C4 and found out that you need to be a mod creator, which Im not. I'm average mod user. Could you perhaps give me some instructions on how to delete it? Maybe something with INI editing? I read somewhere that you could edit INI in Oblivion to reveal more map, ergo removing fog of war. Unfortunately there's no line like that in Skyrim's INI.
LynxAwakening
in the metro tunnels and big cities it's kinda tolerable if you stick to the streets, since you generally can't fill in the fog completely... but in an open area it's tragic. and if you try to go back, in most cases it will make the problem worse! instead of 1 block you have 2... 3... 4... and you're right back to uncharted territory all over again! as you can see there's 4 blocks in this screenshot, i dub it the pip-boy plague! http://static2.nexusmods.com/15/images/120/2262297-1389935646.jpg this wasn't a problem with morrowind or oblivion for me... but fallout 3 / NV seem to have it.ALL my bethesda titles are GOTY... well, NV is "special" i tried messing with the blackpane.dds in geck last year... which had no effect. maybe it's an architectural problem? i'm using windows7 ultimate64, obviously i've tried different compatabilities... no effect. "pip-boy plague" reminds me of:http://www.alice-in-wonderland.net/alicepic/disney-movie/sweepdog-1.jpgthe sweeping dog in alice in wonderland sweeping up your tracks!
