So building my player house, I now I want to set it up so upgrades can be purchased, so I lay Xmarkers that will enable when the upgrades are purchased, now I need to link all the items.... the thing is, some rooms have literally over a hundred items, do I have to set their enablestate parent to the xmarker one by one, or is there a way to select them all and link them all at once to the xmarker?

I didnt test it but the Reference Batch Action menu has a set enable parent option.

Select what you want, then go to view, Reference Batch Action Window. The window displays a list of the selected references, on the right you'll find a "select enable parent" option (and a lot of other useful stuff). At the bottom you can spot the "Select reference in render window" button.

Perhaps an easier way to do this (I do it all the time) is to select all of the objects you want to connect to the same enable parent (either in the render window or the cell view window, or a combination of both) and then, while they're all still selected, right-click on one of them in the cell view window and select "Set Enable Parent..." from the menu.

Use whichever method you prefer, they both work just the same; I like context menus because they're always there and I don't have to open up another window to get to what I need to do. There might be other useful things in that batch action window thingy that aren't available in the context menu, though, so might be a good idea to at least familiarize yourself with that one.

The batch action window (unlike in the GECK) is now interactive you you could, assuming you have the desktop real estate, leave it open and just move it off to one side and use it as & when needed, thats what I often do but I using a desktop res of 3200x1200.

Does that work?, I thought I had tried that (possible with set linked ref) and my impression was it only set the object you right clicked on

Yup, it works. I used it to simultaneously hide every piece of my incomplete blacksmith (by linking them all to an initially disabled xmarker) so that I could release version 1.0.2 of my mod Dovahheim, and I've also used it to link all the bandits (and traps and triggers) in Robber's Gorge to one xmarker, and the new guards I added to another xmarker.

You do have to right-click on one of the selected items, though -- if you select a bunch and then right-click on a different object, you'll set the enable parent for that one object instead of the group you selected (found that out the hard way when my cursor was a few pixels off target...).

I've never tried to do it with "Set Linked Ref...", though; that option may indeed behave as you describe.
