Graphics corruption

I played Skyrim successfully in November / December, but now that I go to play it again I get all sorts of corrupted graphics. Lots of broken geometry, sometimes missing or corrupted textures.

Skyrim 1.4.27.0.4

Windows 7 64-bit

GPU Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti - with latest drivers v295.73

CPU Core i7-2600 @ 3.4 GHz

8 G RAM

I tried changing settings in the Nvidia control panel and in the Skyrim launch and nothing seems to make any difference, vsync, high or low textures, etc. I uninstalled the Nvidia 3D vision driver, which I had to do in November. No change.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Doug

Have you tried reinstalling Skyrim?

Or, if you don't want to try something quite so drastic, you could possibly try deleting the Meshes.bsa and the Textures.bsa from your Data folder, and then go into Steam, verify the integrity of the game cache, and therefore have Steam reinstall those .bsa files. Hopefully someone else has more information on that, because I'm not certain it's possible to have Steam restore entire .bsa files.

Thanks for the suggestion -- I remember some amount of uninstall/reinstall helped with a crash last year, but this time it did not help. I wiped the whole 5 gigs and had Steam download it again last night and still the same issues. Also ran the "verify integrity".

It seems like the geometry & textures are getting corrupted in memory somehow. If I quit to desktop and start Skyrim again, things look normal for a bit but they slowly get more and more messed up. Sometimes its playable up to an hour, other times its hopeless within 5 minutes.

Go to Skyrim folder, right click, choose properties, previous ver. tab, and roll back to 1 before this started, if you can. Doing this will remove all mods installed since that ver. though.
