IndorilTheGreat
So recently on a site (www.405th.com), I register for an acount, and post one thing in the "Noobs" section. I then leave to go somewhere. I check back on the site today, and I get a message saying that I've been banned. >:( I wonder "WTF?!" and look around (on a different IP Address). I see that someone had posted under MY NAME, pretending to claim rights to someone elses work. Of course, the Admin came along shortly after this was posted, and said exactly this: "ha ha... you're now banned congrats" I was furious that someone would do this! >:( Now, I sent the Admin a message early this morning, and he has not yet replied. I explained to him what had happened, and that I am looking for the culprit. Now, the thing I'm REALLY worried about, is the fact that who ever did this, used MY IP Address, which is locked by a 41 Digit randomly generated password. Any suggestions as to what I should do? Thanks,gman021
MalachiDelacot
Phooey on 'em. They need you more than you need them.Your presence would haved raised the IQ level of the place, but the twits are too dumb to realize that. Phooey on 'em. (the above vocabulary was edited to better suit your sensitivities.Modifications may be made if written request is submitted in writingbefore he finishes typing this and goes to a different thread to check out what's going on there)

TheTerminator2004
Get linux! :P But, in case you didnt know, any website can discover your IP whenever you connect to it - this forum, for example, logs it at least every time you post something, and i think it checks every time you view a page, to make sure youre not banned or whatever. Sooo, therefore, either its a problem with the forum - they could easily have been hacked - or somehow that other member managed to run some kind of html code to discover it - does that forum allow use of the bbcode tag? its kinda scary that its so easy to discover people's ip address actually, considering you can simply run it through whois, and often it tells you that persons home address, etc.

IndorilTheGreat
Well, I have my computer ready for the next time something like this happens. Okay. So, I sent the Administrator a message about 3 days ago, and he hasn't replied yet, and nothing has changed on the site for me yet. :( Do you think he even bothered to CONSIDER my message? IbisOverhead
If you still have access to that site through the other IP address computer, contact at least 5 friends there and ask them to petition the admin for you by PM. If they do not hear from him .. keep pelting him with PMs until he responds to one of them. If he totally ignors them, ask them to start a thread asking why you were banned and keep the thread going ... so that many members become aware of your unfair bannage and how it happened by someone hacking your IP. You have to wonder at the security of that site if they let this happen. But this is what I have seen work for others when such a mistake happens. I wasn't on the site long enough to make any friends... maybe I'll ask him to un-ban my IP...
