Random freeze or ctd.

Have had random lockups and ctd's for over a month now. Dosent seam to Mater if I run with mods or vanila. It happens in both interior and exterior cells. Moved steam, SSE, and nmm to a new Dir on hard drive and gave special premission to the SSE lancher app. Cleared up for a few days then started up again. Anyone have any ideas? Please help.

That is not much to go on, 2/b honest.

 

So here are a couple of thoughts: ( not in any particular order, just some thought. )

 

1. Did you try scrubbing Skyrim SE ( Uninstall ) and try installing a "new game"?

 

2. Is your computer hard-drive having issues?

... One thing when I was helping a local friend, I found his hard-drive was reading and writing a whole lot, even when nothing was being ran. Task Manager showed nothing. His hard-drive proved to be failing.

 

3. Is your video card drivers up to date?

 

4. Is your video card possibly over heating?

 

5. Did you change anything on your computer just before this started?

all my hardware is new. only 3 months old. msi x370 gaming pro carbon motherboard with 32 gig gskill ram. msi gtx 1050 ti 4 gig grafix card and 2 tb wd harddrive.

the last few crashes and ctd's have been on the northern road from whiterun to iverstad. every time i get into a fight near the bandit tower on that road the game ctd's. seems to happen most often in the rift and around windhelm docks lately.

Okay, here are some things you might want to check out:

Please understand, I am not wishing to start a flame war with anyone else that might be reading this. Just sharing some thoughts.

You have 3 Bird Mods and I know when I tried:

* Birds And Flocks_SSE with other Bird type mods, when they 'merged' in the area or flight, I would get CTD's.

... Not saying that is the problem, but I do know I had issues with them, so I scaled it down to just the 1.

* Joy of Perspective

... This mod has a lot of bugs listed. I personally wanted to try this mod, but with the bugs and such, I just will not touch it, yet.

* Immersive Citizens - AI Overhaul

... I noticed you have other mods that change, add and such NPC's. I would be careful that this mod is not conflicting with other mods.

Thus, if you are possibly running into two sets of NPC mod changes ... that could do, IE: Windhelm Docks and such.

* Add to this:

... Relationship Dialogue Overhaul to this equation as well.

I would go to these specific mod pages and read carefully compatibility and such, and read the BUG FORUMS if they have them.

I honestly see some real potential of conflicts, which could be why the CTD's, the game does NOT know which mod to use and/or more than 1 mod is trying to do the same access and such.

I agree with jjb54 .... one thing every player should to before installing a mod is not only to read the mod description but the mod posts ... in this last section you will find very important information about other players having found bugs or stuff like that which will help you to "feel" if you want to download the mod or not.

 

Personally, I do not have that mod : Joy of perspective ... after I did read all of it about it, I decided not to go for and also I do not have any bird mods at all because for me, they are not necessary but having 2 or more mods that do the same thing, will probably conflict with your game and that is the point.

 

Immersive Citizens is a heavy mod and I tried it in my previous play through but I decided not to continue using it.

still having the same problem. not related to any mod. i did a clean install with no nmm and no mods. i followed all the suggestions on bethesdas page and it still keeps crashing. i even had all my hardware checked by a tech. it seems as tho skyrim old or new is incompatible with windows 10.

Neither oldrim nor SSE is incompatible with Windows 10 as I am sure the many people who are running both on Windows 10 will tell you if they read this post.

 

When Windows 10 first came out there were certainly problems, many of them from people who updated instead of installing the OS. Most of this was due to Microsoft not installing the updated drivers to video software and hardware.

 

My suggestion to you would be to google for windows 10 problems with Skyrim as there are a number of posts as to how to configure Windows 10 for Skyrim and solutions for common problems with Windows 10.

sounds like a hardware/firmware issue.

 

Try updating your BIOS and all drivers. I reccomend a program called driverbooster and also advanced systemcare.

 

My mobo required a microcode update (BIOS) before I was able to play Witcher 3, might be significant.

 

Check your ports, make sure your GPU is plugged into the 16x slot and not a 2x or 4x slot, try another game see if it crashes same as skyrim. If other games are crashing too its definitely your hardware. Run windows update, check disk for errors. All the usual stuff.

1. Replace failing harddrive.

2. Find a way to go back to windows 7.

A more logical approach is fixing one problem at the time, so you can properly identify the root of the problem. You said that all the hardware is brand new, does that include the hard drive? If not, then a failing hard drive could be the cause.

 

Is there any reason why you think Windows 10 is also the problem? Because it really shouldn't be. Most people now plays PC version of SSE on Windows 10.

 

I am more inclined to think that it is an hardware issue - that is usually the case for games locking up. But here is something you could try... disable auto-save on travel and see if that helps. This is really rare though, but wouldn't hurt to rule it out if it doesn't work.
