ChuckFinly
Can routers bottleneck an individual's internet speed? I have both a wireless and wired internet connection. I have an old router; has 10/100 Mbps (wired) I think in Ethernet speed. I do know that there is a difference in Ethernet speed vs. internet speed, but how much is Ethernet speed relevant to internet speed? I don't want to go out an buy a $100 router if it isn't going to improve my internet speed. My laptops are all old and I think only support 54 Mbps (wireless) anyway so that really doesn't matter. If I determine if a new router is worth the money, I may go buy one, but if it's not then there isn't a point. Thanks
Illiad86
Ethernet speeds are for your home network. 10/100 is standard with a lot of routers, gigabit is becoming more common, but they are kind of expensive. If your Internet speed is higher than 100MB, then it will bottleneck. Otherwise, that router will be fine.
