Zorgamal
I need help figuring out why my game seems to randomly freeze or CTD while I am playing. It seems to mostly occur when I am fast traveling, but it can happen just out of the blue. I tend to only have my game freeze when loading, and CTD while actually playing. However it is not every time that I fast travel, nor is it one specific place where it happens. From what I can tell, it really is random as to when it happens. I just recently got back into Skyrim and wanted to move up to the Special Edition after dealing with too many problems on Oldrim. I am using the BOSS guide to mod SE and aside from a few mod changes (subtracting and adding mods) I made, I've followed it almost exactly as it is written. I am currently still on a test profile so there shouldn't be any problems with save corruption or anything like that since I load into a save that doesn't require any mods. BlueGunk
Nice set of mods! Just an opinion from someone who came back from CTD hell in old Skyrim... but might your game be stressed from running Claralux, skybirds_SSE, and loading it with grass mod and other texture stuff followed by Vivid Weathers and an ENB? Random CTDs on cell loadings sounds to me like sometimes the demands are too much for the system. Warzones is also pretty heavy, too. I know SE is way better at memory, but there are still limits... 8GB of RAM when other PC background processes will be running, could be eaten up, as Skyrim still goes for CPU and system RAM first. I have 16GB RAM and 6GB VRAM and my game is stable but I am careful with lighting, overhauls, grasses, etc. I don't know what texture packs you run on top of the list, but they will add to the weighting. As additional note, I'd put Majestic Mountains close to the end of the load order as its texture packs are now built into the mod. I have mine just before RDO. Ditto with Simply Bigger trees. And watch the load order on the grass and grass fixes. Just a guess but try running the game without Claralux (lighting mods can be heavy hitters) and for easing back on scripts take out skybirds_SSE. Perhaps adjust your Papyrus times to allow for a little more script run: fPostLoadUpdateTimeMS=500.0 fArchiveInitBufferMB=8.0000 fUpdateBudgetMS=2.3000 ; default 1.2000 iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=153600 Scale back until you get a stable game and see what you can live without. (Or buy another 8GB RAM!) As I say, just a guess! Good luck.
Zorgamal
Thanks for the help. I was thinking that I may be trying to run too heavy of a mod set, but I guess I was hoping I could run more than I should. I will definitely remove skybirds and a few others and see if that doesn't fix the problem. Regarding the load order, I see what you mean about one of the landscape fixes esps being above the grass mod. I some how never noticed that when I went over it, but I will definitely move those two you mentioned closer to the bottom. Unfortunately, I won't be able to test it for a while because I messed something up when I installed the performance monitor to check how everything was running. I'm not sure what happened but my FPS dropped to the 10's and 20's while it was running and once I uninstalled it, I got an infinite load screen after the main menu running it both through MO and steam. I think the problem is the monitor messed up the dll files in SE folder. I've already tried a bunch of different things that didn't work so now I've uninstalled and am reinstalling the game from steam. Hopefully that fixes the problem, but if it doesn't I'm all ears for a possible solution. Anyway, thanks again for the help Edited September 28, 2017 by Zorgamal
BlueGunk
I wondered whether to mention Performance Monitor. I assume it is this one? https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/3826/? That's definitely the best way to see if you are blowing out the memory. Not sure how it went wrong for you. I downloaded mine to a separate drive away from Skyrim SE, and I run it first from that drive. I set up Performance Monitor to launch Mod Organizer 2, and then run the game from MO2 as normal. Performance Monitor picks up the stuff properly. Performance Monitor should not mess up DLLs! Hope you get it sorted. My Skyrim SE runs a dream. My only problem is dialogue options keep falling off the menus. Weird....
Zorgamal
Yep that's the one. I'm thinking now I just messed something up when I was trying to fix the low frame rates. Just uninstalling and reinstalling the program didn't work so now I am trying a clean uninstall by wiping everything related to SE aside from MO and my mods which are in a separate location so they shouldn't affect it. With the monitor I tried using a workaround feature in the monitor's options that let me ignore the dll files that wouldn't let the overlay appear. It's still experimental, so that may have contributed to it but idk anymore. I'm just going to wipe the game and hope that works. Like I said I'm still testing so I'm not really losing anything by doing so. I'm glad yours is running so smoothly, and I think that's one of the few problems I haven't had between Oldrim and Special edition so I hope you get it figured out. Edit: Finally got the game working correctly again. Now to get back to the mods and actually fixing the in-game problems. BlueGunk
Good luck! Keep your MO2 away from your game folders (but I expect you already know that!)
