Phoena
So I have tried a few mods for better lighting effects and none have done any justice to reality despite the names. I have tried ENB Lights Overhaul - ENB Lights OverhaulFallout 4 Realistic Lighting - FO4Lighting (Complete)Natural and Atmospheric Commonwealth - A Complete Realistic....Realistic Lighting and Natural Colours ENB - ShredFX ENB V1.2Ultra Interior Lighting - Ultra Interior Lighting I have tried these all solo and some in combination with each other and it doesn't seem to add any level of realism to the game. I am not trying to bash any of the developers of these mods. I don't know if I am doing something wrong, or if what I want is not possible with the game engine. Basically I want realistic lighting, where light sources cast shadows and can light up a room. I am currently working on Vault 88 and it is really annoying that inside the crust of the earth with no visible light sources the whole place is still lit up. And converse to that, when I make a light source it seems to only be able to put out about 1 meter of light before it seems to be stopped by some invisible force. On the attached screenshot it shows two lights in the ceiling that basically just light up where they are and cast no light anywhere else in the room. So for all of you that mod and use mods, how can I fix my issue?
dragonslayer2k12
The shadows are what slows down the game along with something called draw calls and any mods that alter precombined meshes in any way.

willyb9
So does that mean there is no hope for me?lighting for the vault tec dlc is terrible. whenever i'm building there i use SOE by ccmads which adds some great options for lights in general but they're perfect for vault 88 imo. you can choose how far light will be casted with ranges from i think 1-4 floors. when installing, you'll get an option to enable shadows for lights or not. i personally would recommend not using the light shadow enabler since as dragonslayer said, it's a disaster for performance, but you could always give it a shot and see how things are running, and if it's hurting FPS too much, just reinstall and disable shadows. hope this helps

I hope it works. I really want it to have ambiance.
Deleted3082751User
i recommend Enhanced Lights And Fx for Realistic lighting, this mod makes most places darker, but at the same time adds new light sources and also enhances previous light sources, i would say this would be the most realistic lighting mod currently. very atmospheric. it also makes certain light sources dimmer, and others brighter, it really is a very nice lighting mod, that again i would say is very realistic. enhanced lights and fx --> https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/13596/? but ofcourse the enb and or reshade you run with it will make a difference. i am currently running Grim Wolf Alone Enb with it, and its very pleasing to say the least. would not recommend using other lighting mods with it however, as standard. ====================observed changes so far==================== 1. Underground areas (such as the basement in sanctuary) are now very low light, almost pitch black (Realistic) the light source has been dimmed and is much more realistic very pleasing to the eye to be fair. 2. Dark Areas are now pitch black (requiring the pipboy light) however new light sources have been added to some, which are dim lights sources basically enough to see (candle light based light sources) 3. Caves are now very low light, almost pitch black (Realistic) caves are using ambient light as the only light source, so basically the majority of the cave is pitch black, meaning only the light source outside is lighting up a bit of the cave, and the glowing green is giving of a tiny bit of light throughout, (very realistic) this is based in the cave just outside red rocket (sanctuary location) meaning pip boy light is needed here. or carrots xD <-- note this might actually be vanilla however, as typically when a mod makes a huge difference you think it is editing more then you expect, so not really sure if this as the same as vanilla or if, enhanced lights and fx really did improve the cave lighting. 4. Well lit areas are now very nicely lit, with much better lights. (Realistic lighting) the most noticeable difference for me was, concord museum, major difference, the light is now coming in from the roof, and also have dark areas that are obviously not lit, very nice and realistic (as said not used this mod for long so this was as far as i got, as i tend to repeatedly start new games due to my unhealthy addiction of keep adding and removing mods) Note: i have not used this mod for long, but so far it has made a huge difference to the lighting, and likewise the game itself. very impressed so far.
