How do i..

Recommended Posts

I Google I searched here and I just simply want to change the name of a custom follower I'm using (I did not make it, I have searched and searched for a tutorial that is easy to follow for a beginner but I can't seem to find one I can understand , maybe I'm stupid)

If this is simple to do and I am stupid , feel free to say so but only after you answer my question !

I would love to create something of my own. If anyone knows of a easy to follow basic custom follower tutorial for a beginner for Skyrim Se that isn't outdated I sure would appreciate if you could point me too it . Everything I read here seems too advanced for me

I'm no expert with creation kit but I think if you pull up the NPC your adding you can change the name in the far left tab.

Like, for the starting antagonist for example. Their names are "Prisoner" by default until you name your character.

I could be wrong though because I have about 4 hours of creation kit under my belt. :ermm:

But I would try to make the title of the thread a little more specific. It's a little click-batey.

You might get a faster response if your title said, "How do I rename a follower?"

Start here. It's been updated for Special Edition as well. https://www.creationkit.com/index.php?title=Category:Getting_Started

When you've gotten this part done, have creation kit 64 up and running, etc., go back to the top of the tutorial, hit the "return to tutorial hub" button and it will take you back to the list of more job specific tutorials.

Click on "creating an actor" on the right side list of links. https://www.creationkit.com/index.php?title=Bethesda_Tutorial_Creating_an_Actor

For the purposes of this question, you'll just be loading the existing follower mod as your active file, finding and opening the follower's actor form, and

you'll see where you can change their editor ID and name. Don't change the editor ID. Only change the in-game name.

If you choose to follow the tutorial to make an actor, then you'll need another tutorial to give it the right factions/AI to be a follower, here. It's in the same set of tutorials, just doesn't have its own link on the hub.

I think only a mod can change the title of the threads. Just for future reference unless you provide a general idea of the topic. Most people will scroll right past it, or people will click on it, but can't help you because they don't know. Which ultimately wastes both your time, and theirs.

Fortunately, there isn't. It is really just that simple. All the names of the NPCs is in the property box and you just simply change them and save the file.

Why not fire up CK and see for yourself instead of endlessly speculating? Just spend a few minutes in CK and you will realize that what you;re requesting is probably one of the easiest thing to do in terms of modding Skyrim - no scripting required, no quest, no AI packages... no complicated steps at all.

1) Open mod in CK

2) Rename your follower and save file

3) See the change in your game.

Not this simple. When you do this with a follower with a custom generated head and you open it in the creation kit it ruins the head and when you save it and try to log in you CTD...

Oh, right. In that case, you can do it with xEdit, which is even simpler. Load only the follower mod, then edit the record. There will be a warning, just say yes. When you exist xEdit, it will ask if you want to keep the change you made. Click "ok," and the change will be saved.
