TaxiVader
Hi folks. Have encountered some major hassles, if anyone can give advice on any of them that would be great. I've only been at this mod business for 1 week but the frustrations are piling up fast. 1. Can't link Bethesda account to Steam account. When I go to link them from the Bethesda side, Steam is not an option. 2. There is no "Mods" menu item at the start of Skyrim, it just goes "Continue, New, Load, Credits Quit". So I can't download any PC mods from Bethesda which is a real bummer. 3. The Nexus Mod Manager can't find folder with the Skyrim.exe file in it, and so it won't download mods for me from Nexus. I searched the whole computer a few times and it appears there IS NO Skyrim.exe file. Hmm. 4. This forces me to download and install mods manually. I sorted out how to do that...kind of. If the mod is just an .esp file or a .bsa and a .esp I've been pasting them into the Data folder and that seems to work. If the manual download contains folders, I have no idea what to do and despite trying lots of variations have not been able to get any of those mods to work. 5. There seems to be no way to upload mods to Bethesda. How did all those mods get there?? New ones do appear from time to time, so... 6. About 60% of the mods I've tried through the process described above (in 4.) stop the game from even starting. It's a matter of trying different combinations of selected data files to see if I can use downloaded mods. Perhaps this would be less of an issue if I could download with the NMM. ANYWAY I'm getting a bit frustrated here and to be honest, the limited number of mods that I can actually get to work in the game, and all the hassles mentioned above, mean that playing Skyrim on the PC is actually LESS SATISFYING than playing it on the PS4. Incredible.
Deleted3082751User
1. No idea i dont use bethesda.net so cant help you here 2. same as above. 3. seems like you need to sort the file path for nexus mod manager to skyrim, if you installed steam and skyrim to the default place it will be here --> C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim <-- 3a. Set nexus mod manager new path to skyrim to the address above (so when it searches for skyrim, cancel the search and paste the address above into the folder path for skyrim) 4. all folders will go into the data folder. same place as the bsa. esp. and esm files location. a lot of mods will have the correct folder path, so you simply copy the data folder (from the mod in question rar file) into the main folder (where skyrim launcher is) and then it will go to the correct place. 5. mods can be uploaded straight from the Creation Kit to Bethesda.net, also mod authors can upload their mods to bethesda.net via downloading bethesda.net launcher (i am pretty sure you can upload mods using this), which you need to even get the latest creation kits for both fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition 6. go back to steps 3 or 4 =============Skyrim Location (the exe and launcher)============= C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim <-- if you have the 64bit edition of windows C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim <-- if you have the 32bit edition of windows "playing Skyrim on the PC is actually LESS SATISFYING than playing it on the PS4. Incredible" so you prefer to play skyrim at 30fps and be stuck with that god aweful fov that you cannot change, rather then a very smooth 60fps on PC and and can change the fov, even without mods PC version of skyrim is far superior, not too mention the shear amount of mods that fix the game, plus you have the console, that not only gives you full control over every single thing in the game, but can also fixes issues like being stuck in places. not trying to speak like a pc master race member, but just look at the shear freedom you already have on the pc, and thats even before mods, once you fix your issues and start modding, the difference will be night and day. TaxiVader
Hi Twisted. Thanks for replying. I tried again with the nexus mod manager specifying this location: =============Skyrim Location (the exe and launcher)============= C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim <-- if you have the 64bit edition of windows It said "Path does not contain game EXE". Then when I try to use the NMM that program says "No games were detected! Nexus Mod Manager will now close." You're right about the PC business. It's already far superior and I'm just using a fairly crappy laptop with integrated graphics.
Deleted3082751User
lets start from scratch: =============Installing Skyrim============= 1. Download Steam 2. Install Steam 3. Download Skyrim Through Steam, ensure that the default path is the C:// Drive 4. Download Nexus Mod Manager 5. Install Nexus Mod Manager 6. on the scanning for games screen in NMM click cancel search, and paste the new destination of skyrim install location, as mentioned in my primary post, that will be the defualt location for steam and skyrim. 7. if all goes well, go to nexus (this website) and download a mod, on the popup that appears for the first time, asking you to allow you mods to automatically download to nexus mod manger, tick the box. Note: before doing the above, delete steam, nexus mod manager, and skyrim, and follow the steps above, if all fails, you may have hardware issues, or virus, malware or other malicious software, that me be preventing you from accomplishing these tasks, starting fresh is the best way to do things. is this a new laptop, with a new installation of windows ? TaxiVader
Hi again Twisted. Thanks for your help. I've sorted out all the probs except the mod manager, but I'll have to investigate that further and seek help in a more specific location I suspect. I was a total wally with the programs and downloads, and your help and some thinking time really helped solve the issues. Thanks mate, I owe you.
