Adding mods and updates

If I add a mod to the game with the NMM and install an update to said mod and it overrides those files do i need to keep said update in the mod manager afterwards?

I have several files i've downloaded that are like files that let that mod work with SKE or AE etc.

Does that count as something that the game counts as a plugin and thus stops me from installing another mod in it's place?

not sure exactly what you mean, but patches do need to stay in load order. if it has an esp, then it counts as a mod.

when I update, I check my load order, delete older version, then install the new version. I then go into my load order and manually put the new version in the exact spot that the original was in. from what I understand moving a mod mid playthrough isn't a great idea.

@ swmeek ....

.... I do recommend you to watch the video located in the War of the Commonwealth mod ( description section ). This video is IMHO, a must-watch-video, especially for unexperienced players ( like myself ) so it does teach us a lot of important things to take into account about modding a game.

As wanderer3292 said, it is not recommended to move or delete a mod mid game and it has been advised by the author of that video, not to do that. However, there is a way to safely do it but again, watch the video and see for yourself and learn it.

no i wasn't talking about removing the mod only the update after i had overwritten the original files when i installed it through the launcher.

I've never used the bethesda launcher if that's what you mean, but I imagine it can't be much different. updates usually are the same as the original file, except woth some kind of update, so it replaces the file that you're updating. if it's just a patch, it still needs to stay, along with the original mod.

I've never had a case where you install an update, and then are able to take it out of your load order, it's either a patch to be applied to the load order, or a replacement esp.
