Sonicslinger
I bought Fallout 4 GOTY for half price this weekend excited to finally mod fallout 4 (had it on PS4 before). After i downloaded it i checked to see if was working. It was running smoothly so I thought that I'd go and get some mods so I installed f4se, sugar bloom enb/reshade, cbbe, unofficial fallout 4 patch, ojo bueno texture pack, star wars TIE-fighter pipboy, retextured chems, THbrows, detailed feral ghouls, CC realistic stars, cotton candy hair colors, vivid fallout all in one, enhanced lights and fx, retextured super mutants, deep spiritual eyes, Azar ponytails and commonwealth cuts. I then loaded into fallout only for it to crash instantly. This continued every time so I uninstalled all the mods. Still crashed every time. I only solved it through this video. If you intend to listen to it grab some headphones and turn the volume to high as the audio is terribly soft. ( ) This stopped it from crashing but now my game runs terribly. It looks like it's stuttering horribly like 3 frames a second. I have tried nearly all the advice I could find on the internet so thought I would submit my question and see if I'd get any help.It would be much appreciated if anyone can solve this problem. My computer is the inspiron 15 7567specs 7th gen i7 7700HQ quad core (6MB Cache up to 3.8GHz)Windows 1016GB, DDR4 up to 32GB256GB SSD + 1TB 5400rpm Hard Drive NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB GDDR5 graphics memory I think it can handle fallout. My mate has the same laptop only with a TN panel and runs the game smoothly. I also play overwatch and SWBT2 on ultra with 70 FPS so i think my computer can handle Fallout 4 but if my specs aren't good enough just tell me. Deleted3082751User
you got a solid CPU there (assuming it is equivalent to its desktop counterpart the i7 7700 and not a nerfed version as laptop hardware counterparts to desktops are usually much weaker, due to the limitations of a laptop) i Don't really know too much about the 1050ti. i would assume the gtx 1050ti Would be slightly better then a gtx 970 (so it should be a fairly decent GPU) however 4gb vram for a modded fallout 4, is kinda limiting. you wont be able to run many High Res Texture Mods (Especially 4k), and you should be strict with what enb you run (including what enb settings you have enabled), as they can be very demanding on performance and resources (typically Memory and Vram). not only that but an Enb with Ambient Occlusion enabled can drastically increase temperatures (we are talking about 5 - 10 degrees on a very well Sufficiently cooled Desktop Pc) this will be an issue for laptops, as they will suffer from higher temperatures by default, if the GPU or CPU overheats, it will Down Clock (Throttle) it self to prevent damage, this will likewise decrease performance, (how heavy the performance hit will be is based on how hot the hardware is in question and how much they need to throttle to get back to a safe temperture so like wise this will be, entirely based on how sufficient your laptop cooling solution is, and how demanding your modded game is) Note: If your i7 7700 is anything like its desktop counterpart, then it will also suffer the same erratic temperature spikes that its desktop counterpart suffers. should be noted that a heavily modded falllout 4 and even skyrim for that matter with many ultra high res textures, very demanding enb, etc etc, will be much more demanding then most games (including latest games). the only games that could compare or be more demanding would be MMOs with thousands of players online (or equally badly optimized games xD) the games you mention are light weight compared to a modded fallout 4. (not only that but fallout 4 is badly optimized as well thus further increasing its intensity on hardware performance and resources) so yea, with all that said, now on to sorting your performance issues: To see if its the ENB causing performance issues: Go Here -> C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4 - and simply move both d3d11.dll and d3dcompiler_46e out of the fallout 4 folder (i recommend moving them to desktop) this will disable the ENB, go back in to game after doing that and see if your performance issue persists. The Biggest Impact on Performance will be these below: 1. Volumetric Lighting + Godrays <-- Set this to Low or Disable it, this setting is Badly Optimized, and will cause Severe Frame Drops Regardless of Hardware. (can be found in Fallout 4 Launcher in Advanced Settings) 1a. to see if this is the cause, Run Fallout 4 - Open the Console, Type: "gr off" (this will disable godrays - input without quotation marks) 2. Shadow Distance (By default this is set to a very high number, change this to Medium or Low Settings - Again this setting is found in Fallout 4 Launcher in Advanced Settings) 3. ENB 3a. The Most Demanding ENB Settings will be: EnableSSAO <-- (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion, Ambient Occlusion on its own is very demanding and causes increased temperatures (however SSAO simply calculates Ambient Occlusion in real time, so since it is a setting related to Ambient Occulsion i would assume this to be demanding as well) EnableSkyAmbientCalculation <-- (probably demanding, i believe this setting is what causes the amazing realistic lighting effect, ie when clouds goes over the sun, it causes the lighting to go darker, just like in real life, and likewise when the cloud is not blocking sun the lighting is bright, very cool effect and very realistic, i believe this is a fairly new setting as i think it was added in the 316 version of enbseries. ) EnableCloudShadows <- (Shadows are demanding on the CPU) so yea play around with this information, and see if it fixes your issues, if not i will then look into your mods. Sonicslinger
Thanks for the advice about modding. Sorry it took me so long to respond. I did uninstall my enb and reshade almost immediately after the problems start so I hopefully it's not that. I have also turned off both volumetric lighting and god rays and still have the problem. Also reduce the shadow distance to low. So the only mods I have in my game now is the configuration menu (as suggested by another forum post) and the unofficial fallout patch. If you have any other suggestions I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get this working. I will also add that through testing with the configuration menu that now whenever i start a new game the game won't go past the steam it will play the sound of the tap running and the squeaky noice but it won't do anything else. So it has gotten worse. Edited October 27, 2017 by Sonicslinger
