mileafly
I don't know how many times I have had to redo my modding from scratch because of a reinstall or because I created a new character that I wanted to use some other mods with. Is there any way to "save" your modsetup for a character in say Skyrim so that you can restore it later? What if when I was happy with a mod setup for a character I created a folder and backed up the whole Nexus Mod Manager folder, the Skryim folder in Steam, the Skryim folder in documents and the Skryim folder in Local/Skryim (it seems the loadorder is stored there?) If I then just made a clean uninstall and then install of Skryim and Nexus and copied back all these files again to their original place should that not restore everything as I had it? Deleted3082751User
i believe that is what Nexus Mod Manager Profiles are for. uninstalling skyrim wont effect nexus mod manager settings, and thus you should be good to go. so yea it should not be nessarary to copy everything into a seperate folder. just create a profile for your character when you are happy with the mod setup and you should be able to uninstall and reinstall skyrim whilst still keeping the same setup. what you could do though is either buy a new harddrive, and dedicate for modding, or create a new partition of your main drive and dedicate that to modding (basically putting all mods on this partition) as you can have mods on 1 drive and install them to another drive (your main drive for skyrim) so basically: NMM Profile + Mods on a separate drive or partition, should be what you are looking for. so when you format you don't loose your mods, and character setup, also i would backup nmm settings and plugins text and put them on the dedicated modding partition. that way whenever you format, you can simply copy all settings back to the main drive, and pick up where you left off. Thank you, is this anything you have tried out so you know if it works? About having a separate hard drive for the mods, is there a reason this would be preferable to just backing up the whole Nexus Mod Manager folder on another drive at some later point ((copy and paste it from my D drive to my external for example)? Is everything located inside this folder though? I have currently my Nexus Mod Manager folder on my D drive, but I have also a location that seems to be related to nexus at: C:\Users\*myuser*\AppData\Local\Skyrim and in there there is some files called plugins.txt, DLClist.txt and Steammodlist.txt for example that lists all my mods it seems, could that be the load order? Or was these the files you mention with "backup mmm settings and plugins text" ? One thing I don't understand is how I could uninstall and reinstall Skyrim and still get the mods if I just restore my Nexus folder? When I install mods they install stuff into my Skryim folder so that would not happen if I just paste back my Nexus folder on another drive? mileafly
Hmm actually there is a backup function in Nexus, so maybe that would work? It is strange though, because if that is the case the Wiki is outdated? Edited October 25, 2017 by mileafly

It would be worth your time to check it out.
TBoneTones
Use Mod Organizer? I could not do without it, warts and all. The earlier versions were fantastic and, for me, worked seamlessly.....the later 'improved, updated' versions alas caused me a fair few problems....not being able to endorse mods, mod authors thinking I hadn't downloaded their mods when I had, glitches and pain with some mods whose authors were not exactly holding back in their opinion of MO, etc, etc. But. It had profiles.....wondrous things!...which, initially, Nexus Mod Manager did not, and profiles simply made Skyrim move up another level for me to play, I could have a Nord warrior, A Lich, A Vampire, a female mage, etc etc. Different mods for each, and back ups, and the vanilla game kept fairly clean. I have high hopes for the 'next generation' version which has been in development for some time, now, and will be part of Nexus. It has a lot to live up to, though, so i am keeping my fingers crossed.
