I keep getting my internet attacked when I download!!!

Its not my imagination.

When I try to download a file I get swamped with some kind of attack that takes my internet offline.

It ONLY happens when I go to download a file from here....

just tried getting the file from http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17515

I have done this 5 times now..and the second I click to download my internet goes poof!!

No connection for almost an hour. If I turn my router and cable box off and back on I get connection for a second to just see a webpage then it goes down again. The off time is from 30 to 60 mins.

Could there be a virus in the servers doing a DoS type attack when ppl download? I have also seen ppl are getting slow speeds today. A DoS flood type attack would slow you down. A cable connection like mine is not a fast one and can't cope.

I have been away from the forums and nexus for a while and just got back on. Still This only happens here..I tried many other places and no problems downloading.

Zenchii can afferm it..because he has been watching my instant messager go poof all day exactly when I go to get a file.

This should REALLY be looked into.

It's true. He's been goin' offline and back online Everytime He tries to download something here. I've also been getting some trouble. Things like armor mods (And I'm talking Mods that only add one Nice looking suit of armor Instead of many) That Usually download like lightning for me, Take a while now. It's weird.

Try using a different server, there has been a run on the site today due to the release of the Unnoficial Oblivion Patch V3.0 a large file and it is causing some havoc.

Also no site can knock your dsl out, if you are having issues with loss of signal that can only be caused by a problem between your modem and your dsl source. That issue is not in the ATM, but from the isp to your modem.

I would not have posted my problem if I wasn't posivite that its not my ISP.

I did try several servers...thats the first thing I did. I even tried other files.

I tried it in IE and firefox.

The crappy data streams in for at lest 30mins...Then stops and I can use the rest of the internet normally.

well I will be in arizona in a few hours. I will try it there.

its still happening here in Kansas city...

and downloading ANYWHERE else on the net is no problem.

I doubt that it is my comcast cable....when I try a download I get flooded with data and get dropped. I don't have a sniffer at this time. So I am not sure what kind of garbage is being sent.

And a site can knock you offline if it does flood/DoS type of attacks....

Theory....a site gets hacked...and a piece of software could be use to flood an IP if a certain type of request is made. Those with a large pipeline would get slow speeds. Those with a smaller one would get wiped out. Its not impossible. It could even be set to only attack those in certain IP ranges. Like attack USA and not Brit.

It might register as an increase in bandwidth usage. So if the hacked server had to pay by the data amount, it could artifically increase the usage.

Theory...it may not be in the download servers but in the server that lists the download sites.

It could trigger only when going to. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/download.php?id=XXXXX

A sniffer would tell me more..but I can't find one right this second..

It could even just broadcast your IP to a third party then floods you.

anything is possible.

Yes I am hoping I am wrong. But something feels hinky...and I am usally right about gut feelings.

batlham, sorry I didn't see this any sooner but after reading your description, it sounds more like something is running on your PC doing the watching and attacking rather than being external. If it were external, I'd expect many more people reporting this problem. When a single file mirror fails to work properly, we get quite a few hits via PM, forum postings here and even at the Beth Official Forums.

If you have a virus scanner, make sure the definitions are up-to-date and do a full system scan.

Then use several Anti-Spyware programs to also check / scan for problems.

I have a list of free programs here.

If you find nothing, find some online virus scanners just to get 2nd opinions in case your system was nurfed by the virus/trojan (stealth viruses can do this)

Another option would be to install AVG Antivirus (non-realtime manual scanner) and schedule it to scan your system periodically in addition to your current real-time anti-virus program.
