Fkemman11
I played both Summoner and GR way back at the turn of the century and have fond memories of both. Originally released for the PS2, they were developed by Volition- think Saints Row or Red Faction- and I would love to see them make another modern RPG some day. Summoner and it's sequel were both quite good from what I remember. There were sneak mechanics for stealth kills, some open world exploration, The characters were decent enough, the combat was real time and you could switch from one party member to another if I remember right. They were the predecessors for more modern rpgs like Skyrim and DragonAge. Now I am pretty sure we won't see a new rpg from them since they were bought out by THQ, but I would like to find a way to bring the second Summoner installment to pc if at all possible and no has already. I have heard of one possible way to do this, but don't know enough about such things to know even where to look. Any ideas on where I could find a pc port or do so legally?
Jackson1122
I played this game a good bit on the ps2 (300+hrs), and now I own it on the gamecube (100+hrs). I can tell you this, the load time on ps2 is longer, so much so that it actually makes the game feel more cumbersome in the overall playing experience. Also, the gamecube game runs smoother. You know how in some games the frame rate is fine and dandy, and then for a split second it gets some kind of boost and the animations just look ridiculously smooth and creamy? Most of the gamecube matches are just that smooth. Theres still that crappy lag in some of the bigger arenas and wilderness battles, though. And here's something to flip your lid, that game on the cube is actually faster in how the pace goes.on the ps2, you pick your attack skill, wait for a second or two, the meter comes up, counts down, and you hit. on the gamecube, you pick your attack and go right into the meter without that stall. Also, summoning an undead warrior doesn't take 15 seconds on the cube, its pretty immediate after the skill pops up over your undead summoners head. The meters are slightly faster due to the overall fluidity of the games, too. Characters and meters both run a half step faster. I used to be able to nail the fastest button matching meter on the ps2, now if I make it in time on the cube, I just barely make it. Used to be able to nail razor arrow (small island crit meter) with eiji 90% of the time, now on the cube ive hit it 1 for 10.And lastly, the affinity attack effects look much sweeter and more detailed on this video gamecube. They're more detailed, and instead of an affinity attack 3 creating a black burned ring effect on the screen like on the ps2, it's white on the cube and makes all the affinity attacks look much cooler. Some of the recruits also come in different outfits. For example, Dhaula (samnite-the wastes-winward steppes) wears white in the ps2 and brown in the cube.Hope you didnt' fall asleep reading all that  Edited November 25, 2017 by Jackson1122
