Triforce1
The DS is a Game Boy, IMHO. Well, not really. That is one of the only problems with the DS. it doesn't play GB Color Games, only GBA. And as far as all of the old games being merely sequels in an attampt to ride out the profit wave, you are as correct as I am. If I had invented Mario and Link, I think I would let all the millions of people over the last twenty years continue to buy these games. LoZ and Mario will never go out of style not only because gaming adults remember them, but because they came up with classic formulae. You can definately predict these games, and they've been around the block a few hundred times, but people still buy them. Why? Because they are fun. I tried picking up the original Halo when it came out; ha. I remember that the Xbox controller refused to sit well in my relatively young hands. Playstation? Yeah, that worked for me; about a million buttons. Of course, this tyrade only goes to show that personal preference goes a long way. As far as handheld platforms, Nintendo has long held the bar on that. How many years was it between the Game Boy and the PSP? And before that, Nintendo had Game and Watch (just had to bring that up; Mr. Game and Watch Smash!)? And I hate to bring it up, but what were Sony and Microsoft doing when the NES came out? Sony had the walkman, and had Bill Gates even come up with his OS? (Sorry, I am not that old but I did have a walkman) Again I must apologize, because it seems that whenever the big N is being pitted up against the others I just have to jump in. Don't know why; must have something to do with a purple game boy when I was nine.
Palpenious
It seems fairly obvious that Nintendo's only focus is games. Sony and Microsoft have many other things on their plate, and while the PS3 and 360 are major properties to them, they are still only a portion of their overall investments. Nintendo also seems to hit gold with practically all of their original IPs, (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc.) which also seems obvious because of the popularity of Smash Bros. I don't think the Game Boy as a system will ever be officially dead, with the backwards comp. of the DS there is just no reason. GBA seriously extended the life of even the oldest games, especially with the backlit screen. And, as far as I know, GBA games are still being released. The DS is great, but I think the GBA is pretty much the pinnacle of hand-held gaming.
chris 07
The reason the DS is outselling the PSP, and always will, is because it is easier to use, more intuitive, and the games are fun for a wider audience. Have you counted how many buttons are on the PSP? True, the grafics are much better, but that doesn't mean much to a young kid or an older person (at least many). That is also the reason that the Wii is outselling the PS3. Of course, this considering the legal issues the PS3 was involved in during its creation. The Wii is simply easier to use. Some games don't even require the use of buttons at all. I've heard it said that Nintendo is dying out, but I must laugh. Really, has Sony come up with a genuinely original game, or idea for their systems? Nintendo has LoZ, Mario, Metroid, SSB, and a whole host of other exclusive titles, and Microsoft has Halo and at least one or two others. What does Sony have? Okay, now to get down off of my soap box and quit with the pro-Nintendo rant... :PHow about GTA4 and MGS4? MGS4 is supposed to be the best game to come out...and it already got 5 stars in each magazine that do game reviews....wii gets boring fairly fast if you do not have anyone to play with, while the PS3 has blu ray, multiplayer (so does the wii but the one on the wii is new and not nearly as good), and many great one player games. PS3 has many great titles, if you bother to look them up you'd know, instead of just assuming. The PSP is the same thing, you could watch movie, and well do all kinds of media stuff besides just playing games, things that the DS will NEVER have that includes taking pictures and talking with someone using it like a cell phone.Only reason why people buy the DS and the Wii over the Playstation3 and PSP is because they "look" funner. I actually have the wii AND PS3 and find the PS3 much better.

Is that how MGS started with Nintendo, and now it's excluseively Sony. Just found that interesting. Also, I have seen PLENTY of people still playing the GB. Not because of awesome graphics, but because it's original.
