Is there any way to save the installed mods structure with MO? I need to format my PC

I have Fallout: New Vegas modded with MO and Loot and the other stuff in the guide over at STEP. Due to various issues I am going to format my PC and install Windows 10, moving on from 7. I have held off on doing so as I fear that the savegames I have with FNV rely on the mods I have installed and active. There aren't that many, but they are still necessary. Is there any way for me to save the names and order of the mods currently installed, so I can format my PC, reinstall MO, and have the mods installed and ordered exactly as they are now?

there are several ways , yes

If you have an external storage device large enough (depending on which mods and how many of them you use) , you can just copy the Mods folder , and after you set up MO again you can just copy the contents back

as for load orders and such , you have an option to create backups of your mod order and your load order (it's a button of a small blue arrow on a hard drive , or something like that)

so you can create these backups , copy all of your mods , then put them back in the folder , and load these backups

If you don't have the storage device , you may wish to write which mods you use , and which options you've installed (if one of them mods has options)

but this requires quite a bit of work

Thank you for this information. I will copy the mods folder to my backup hard drive and see if this works after formatting my PC. Thanks.

Just a word of advice. There can be many reasons why you wish to upgrade to Win10, but if you are expecting better gaming performance then you need to carefully consider which games you primarily play. Older 32-bit games like FNV currently run much better on Win7. (This is based upon my experience helping players with their technical issues over the last two years with FNV.) Some of those problems are expected to be improved upon with the "Fall Creator's Update" now rolling out, but it is still early days for reports on how effective that is for older games. Other problems are that vendors tend to drop testing against older games as they fall out of favor. The older the game, the more likely later updates to drivers and the OS are to introduce incompatibilities.

One alternative is to get any version of Win10 other than the "Home" version, because it will include the "virtual machine" feature that will enable you to run a Win7 "virtual machine" on your Win10 system for your older games. But to do that, you will need to have an ISO image (there are still sites where you can get this) or a copy of the Win7 install disk that does not require the presence of an older version of Windows to be found already present (i.e. not an "upgrade" disk). You will need the Win7 "product key" number. Forewarned is forearmed.

Thanks for the information. It's not really for a performance boost, but because my Win 7 installation has errors that cannot seem to be repaired. Even the recovery tools are not working. I thought I might as well upgrade to 10. This Win 7 installation has been on the PC since 2012 iirc and there have been some registry problems and other stuff throughout the years that I thought were repaired but I guess it all just " got clogged"

Just remember that all hardware eventually "wears out". Business expects to replace a PC every 3 years. (That's what they amortize the cost over.) The typical home user can expect roughly 5 years out of a box if they can keep the temperature stable and the dust blown out regularly. If you are "upgrading" then seriously consider hardware replacement. Nothing more frustrating than reformatting & re-installing, only to find the box dies shortly there after.

I just noticed a thread in the "Hardware" forum where several respected, long time Nexus users have reported similar. So I'll have to withhold my opinion in future until I get some actual experience with Win10.

Thanks for the update info. That's the first confirmation the released "Creator's Update" version fixed that DX9 issue I've seen. (Earlier reports were while it was still unreleased to the remainder of the world, and things can change.)
