CTD on loading screen after SSE 1.5.16 Update

I too am having this issue (CTD upon loading a saved game) and don't use SKSE (also waiting for it to get out of beta). DaddyDirection's link seems to be for SKSE64 users, at least according to the Install directions and the video. Is there a version for non-SKSE64 users?

My binkw64.dll is from June 22, 2017 and I have a back-up from April 16, 2017, but those both seem to be old enough that they shouldn't be causing this, as the CTDs just began. Also, if reverting it just gets undone with each forced update, it doesn't seem worth doing anyway.

Hello all, I disabled SSE Fixes in Nexus Mod Manager and am now able to load my save games. Thank you all for the tip. I will keep an eye out for an update to that mod.

How does one disable SSE Fixes in NMM? I can't find it in the settings or tools menus (I'm using NMM 0.63.114 for SSE). Steam still forces autoupdates and despite the dropdown, nothing else can be selected there.

Thanks in advance...

Just a general comment for anyone worried about SKSE64 - I really wouldn't worry about it much. It may be in "Alpha" but it's perfectly stable, and worth using. I have yet to read any reports saying it causes issues - so I would suggest going for it. Even if the mod I linked is the only "mod" you use SKSE64 for, it should be worth it. I mean, these updates don't seem to show any sign of stopping - so if this little thing can prevent some headaches I say it's worth it. Just my two cents.

THE SOLUTION!

How to get SkyrimSE.exe 1.5.3 back? Do this;

Rename SkyrimSE.exe to SkyrimSE.exe1516

This way you keep the original 1.5.16 EXE intact.

tl;dr:
press win+R, paste: steam://nav/console
in steam console, paste: download_depot 489830 489833 911281757511576655
the v1.5.3 exe will download to [...]steamapps/content/app_489830/depot_489833
Copy SkyrimSE.exe to Skyrim Special Edition folder.
Voila.....

Awesome! That worked perfectly, at least until the next update, but I saved a copy of 1.5.3 that I can roll back to.

Thanks!

Since the last update I can't play skyrim any longer. That stuff has ruined the game.

I only can load a "uncorrupted" save game, that means I come into the game. But from this point skyrim se only creates corrupted save files that can't be loaded. If I go into a den, a house or sth: CTD. If I try to travel fast: CTD. Sometimes when I open the map: CTD.

That makes no fun. I tried the trick to get the old skyrim.exe back, but that doesn't work in my case.

I've tried it to make skyrim work again. Loading an older save game solved my problems to the greatest possible extend. My mentioned save game above is maybe itstelf corrupted.

Eventually, try to load older save games may fix such problems with ctd. ;)
