SKSE64 Fix

This is legit. Just copy/paste everything it says to type, and watch where your content folder actually is because if you have multiple steam game folder locations like I do, it's going to go in the original steam installation location. Thank you guys so much for the work put in so we can all benefit from it.

Thanks for the instructions.

Definitely works!

However, the only thing I can think of is that this fix requires Steam to be in offline mode, otherwise this one needs to re-run this fix every time the Steam Client are launched.

And that will disable the ability to take a screenshot in-game via Steam. Of course that's not a problem for WB users, not sure how it is for users of NMM or MO though.

Go into steam, online, and click on the LIBRARY tab, then GAMES. Right-click on Skyrim SE and open PROPERTIES. Inside PROPERTIES, click the UPDATE tab and there's a drop down, where you can set Skyrim SE to update only when you launch it. I still play offline almost all the time, but if I should happen to go online, the game still won't update unless I launch it.

I just did that, which reminded me about another thing I did earlier today.

What I did was to set SSE to never update in the background and with this setting you mention SSE would probably never be updated, unless I really want to update SSE that is.

Also, from what I understand launching SSE via the SKSE64 shortcut will disable Steam to update SSE. Is that correct?

Yes launching via SKSE64 will not update SSE. Always make sure Steam runs before you launch (Steam can run minimalized when Windows starts up, or equivalent on Mac?). I had Steam not running and SKSE64 still launched the original SSE, my bad..

Curious as to what exactly is updated in SKSE64 everytime when skyrim.exe is updated ?

It's the various addresses that point to memory locations within the skyrim executable. What I can't understand is why the SKSE guys can't create a properties file with the critical address offsets and load that up when SKSE starts up. That way there would be no need to update the SKSE executable whenever skyrim is changed, simply change the addresses in the properties file.

Would make life a lot easier for those of us with SKSE plugins.

Alright Everyone:

After careful examination (for about 16 hours of debugging) here is the solution:

Problem: SKSE crashes BEFORE the "Bethesda" logo

  1. If you want it to work you MUST TRY THE NORMAL SKYRIM LAUNCHER FIRST!! If the normal Skyrim launcher works and the SKSE one, doesn't then this fix will work.
  2. Go to your SKSE64.log (Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\SKSE) for Skyrim Special Edition.
  3. Then read ALL of the mods that require SKSE!

  4. Update all of them, (that mean don't miss even a single one!)

  5. And hopefully it'll all be fixed!

SKSE64 FIX

Spread these steps! That's how you solve this nonsense. Show them!

1. Start by pressing win+R, and then pasting: steam://nav/console

2. A steam console should appear now, just paste the following line: download_depot 489830 489833 911281757511576655

3. The v1.5.3 exe will downloaded to [...]steamapps/content/app_489830/depot_489833

4. Just go to where the exe was downloaded and paste the old exe inside your root skyrim folder replacing the "new" one.

if I do that and I decide I want the updated one back how do I do that?
