trotter6944
I've recently started playing Skyrim again because when I first got the game back in November I had such a lag problem that I couldn't get into it. I'm still having the same problems as I did back then. I've updated my .ini files and tried increasing the ram usage limits but these haven't helped me at all. My biggest problem is that I have a huge lag during gameplay. When attacking with a sword, I'm pretty much only using power attacks. Using fraps I've seen that my fps is only about 8-12. I'm thinking that this is way too low for a game of this magnitude. Is there something that I can do to fix this lag issue? My computer has a amd athalon ii x2 250 processer, 8 gig of ram, ati radeon 3000 graphics card. Please help.
TheBestIdiot122
When lag occurs in a game like Skyrim, the shadows eat your CPU alive (I use to have this problem). I just turned the Shadows to low and it was fine.

kingtitan
How many background programs are you running? It could depend on any number of factors honestly. Remember, the weakest link in your rig's setup is what will determine your gaming experience as far as hardware goes. However, id doesn't sound like this is necessarily your issue. TheBestIdiot122
I've seen anti-viruses try to block Skyrim, causing imminence lag. Do you have an Anti-Virus?
Fatalmasterpiece
Do you have any cats living in your computer case? No seriously, check for any lint/hair build ups blocking fans and heat exhaust.

No seriously, check for any lint/hair build ups blocking fans and heat exhaust. this has happened to me with my old pc, not cats. i hate cats... god i hate cats. anyways dust, hair, fur can get stuck on the cooling fins and your CPU and/or GPU will overheat which will cause lag. if skyrim runs fine for 5 mins then lags like hell then it well could be this.
