Seysey
I am posting here mainly because i am very very new to the whole "modding" scene. Simple enough if you follow the directions and do not try to get fancy. So far I have managed a couple of small mods as test to make sure that I understand what I'm doing and they have worked well. Even the new body mesh which I totally love. Now that I have the background out of the way here is the real question/issue. REAL QUESTION / ISSUE: I am having trouble getting body textures to work. My characters have a weird look about them and a small set of unevenly matched black underwear. I am very very sure that I am making some noob mistake as I have seen people post about this issue many times in a lot of comments but I have never seen an answer. If anyone has any sort of insight into this I would be very grateful. (Note: My FNV is installed in my steam folder. I noticed some people mentioning steam having some issues with mods before. Just some misc that may help.) Feel free to ask if i left out some key information. I did not feel it was required to say which texture mods I have tried and retried to get this working. Since everything goes in data/characters/female. Simple enough.
JimboUK
Have you done your archiveinvalidation? I think FOMM can do it, probably the Nexus Mod manager and this... http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=35935 When it comes to using mods it's not Steam that is the problem, it's if Steam is installed in your program files, Windows UAC interferes with things in there. If it is in your program files you should either move your Steam folder somewhere else or if you've got other security on your system disable UAC. The nexus mod manager dose have archive invalidation so that is covered. I have Program files and Program files(x86) which is where this is all contained. Is the (x86) covered by the UAC? I would assume it is. I tried moving the steam folder according to their guidelines and it became nothing but a big hassle. Long story short it took me many hours and i just put it back in it's original place. All mods except 'body' textures work just fine. I feel there there is some fundamental step I am missing. I very must appreciate your help on this issue. I would be very happy if you continued to think of ideas. If all else fails I will try moving the folder again. There is a lot of crap in that /steamapp/ folder so exhausting all possible options before trying to move that beast is the path I'm hoping to take. JimboUK
Which body mod is this? It sounds like the textures are not in the right place. The file path to the textures are contained within the mesh, if the textures aren't where they are supposed to be then what you're describing is the result. On the subject of UAC yes the x86 folder is also protected, it causes no end of issues with mods that add assets like textures.
Seysey
Hence my problem. I know the correct place, Data/textures/characters/female. And I am aware of what files go in there. (Misc: Make a copy of the original before replacing files.)All set, good, understood, We have established where the files go and what they are. But they are not working is the issue. I guess what I mean to say is that I want a step by step explanation of what you would do and any extra things you may or may not have. There is obviously something missing and I aim to find out what. This is my "test texture" (http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=44537&navtag=file/images.php?id=44537&tab=3) the ones I first tried to use to make sure that I have things figured out before I try any others,However if you cross reference all other body textures they say the same thing Data/textures/characters/female. (Misc: Along with what type of body the texture is for and any number of programs that match form facial to seam cover ups.) As for the mesh itself I used (http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=38132&navtag=file/images.php?id=38132&tab=3) Since a lot of people seem to use this as a base. As before the mesh works fine. Any insight on mesh texture relations is always welcome. Oh great kitten man.
JimboUK
In that case I'm at a loss, if everything is in the right place and the archive invalidation is done then they should work. Open The Fallout.ini in Documents\My Games\FalloutNV and scroll down to the archive section, check that the last two lines are... bInvalidateOlderFiles=1bUseArchives=1 Do the same with the falloutprefs.ini, then use the mod manager to toggle archive invalidation off and then on again. GrindedStone
Those maps suck anyway I bet. Use Mojave delight instead.
