Recently got ahold of the steam version of this wonderful game. been looking over some of the nexus mods an am overwhelmed by so many. where to start? what to even start to download? did get NMM and SSE so far, and the d/l content from steam there res pack. any suggestions as to where to go from here would be great. guess I forgot the most important thing me what I like to be in the game... well will be a thief/ranger type. doing a lot of hunting for those furs and items to blacksmith with, and alchemy and enchanting too. Noticed some nice face mods but.. like all the other wonderful ones.. which ones work good with other mods? And lastly should I eveb download anything off of steam site the downloadable mods? or just stick with the nexus site? don't know if doing both will comflict with each other? Right now I just have a blank game. gonna try that for now and keep looking at all these wonderful mods here on the nexus site.. thanks again

There is a really good guide to modding and also game tweaks called STEP. It makes for a great base for your mods. Also, Superl3 ENB is my favorite for graphics. Looks incredible. Here's a couple of links if you want to check them out. :)

I'd check out the top 100 mods list here on nexus, lots of good ones there (obviously). It really depends on what you're looking to get out of the game. I'd browse around and see what looks cool to you. Check out the comments section of the mod too to see what others are saying about it. You should also read the entire overview page so you know exactly what the mod is supposed to do, there is usually a list of conflicting mods there as well.

Just make sure you don't go crazy and add 50 mods before testing it out. It's best to go one at a time, but depending on the type of mod you can add a few and still be fine. Some mods won't work with others and some cause unexpected glitches/ctd's. It's easy to find the problem mod if you only activated a couple of new ones.

Also there's a thread somewhere on these boards where users posted their top 5 mods, do a search and you should find it (search for top 5 mods and it should come up). That will give you a good starting point as well.

I am playing a mage this time also and am using the Midas Magic (only a couple of over powered spells so I just don't use those) and Balanced Magic to fix the magic leveling in the game. I am really happy with the results and would recommend trying them.
