You mean the famous Akatosh Mount mod? Don't worry, this is only the grandfather of all of the other mods.

The Akatosh model, which btw. is the same family as the Skyrim dragons, Akatosh being the godfather of all of them after all, was used in quite some other mods after this as well, not as mounta but rather as

- random monsters, like in Martigen's Monster Mod, the famous MMM, if I recall correctly,

- boss encounters, like in Dragon Invasion, an interesting quest-based mod about dragons returning to Cyrodiil and wreaking havoc (yeah, those author(s) knew they would return already long before Skyrim was even an imagination of the devs, it seems!),

- companions/pet, as the cute little Tiamat The Fire Drake by Maigrets, one of my personal favourites among pet mods.

And these are likely by far not the only mods doing this, though it appears the Akatosh model is so far the only model used for this. I've seen some others around "based" on it, or some rather promising "WIP"s, but my knowledge of any released ones "not" made from Saiden Storm's Akatosh meshes or skeletons in at least one way or another is close to NIL.

For reference, flying isn't possible in Oblivion, and this experience/effect can only be faked by some animation and scripting trickery. Not even creatures can properly fly. They're still walking on ground, but the walking uses an animation of them being high up above and only flapping their wings. So a hovering flight at fixed height above ground is likely as close to it as one can get, not taking into account the "user"-controlled flight of mounts and winged races. Taking a look at QQuix' impressive research and development into this direction, arbitrary flight movements also for actors, along flight paths instead of controlled by the user, it's gotten pretty close already, but it's a lot of complex and complicated scripting and last time I checked it was still highly WIP or only proof of concept. Then I lost track.

Regarding the lore about Skyrim dragons and their possible existance in Oblivion... Skyrim's lore was made up a very long time after Oblivion's release. No Oblivion mod ever has to concur to this "alien" lore about events 300 years in the future at all, just because now it's "now". And even according to Skyrim's lore there was one dragon around all the time, for thousands of years only a short weekend visit away from the IC. Who's saying Paarthurnax(sp?) didn't pay a visit to other regions from time to time? And if one dragon switched side in the conflict and survived the dragons' banishment in history, who's saying there couldn't have been others? They're treated extinct in Imperial science journals, but only because they're hiding very good doesn't mean they aren't out there, somewhere. One was, so why not others? Weasel-Lore(sp?) to the win!

Wonder how Midas Magic manages this while using the angel wing spells

From what I remember, just about the same way any other flight mod I know of did it so far. It's involving an invisible platform below your feet the position of which gets controlled by scripts, and on your character there's a simple idle animation or something playing which makes the wings flap. I've seen "morph"-based wing flapping in Midas Magic also, so it's not necessarily involving a "skeletal" animation at all, but that's for the flapping only, the actual "flying" most definitely is achieved the same way still. This is more or less the way "all" mods I stumbled across so far did it back then, from Pegasus and Flying Carpet over Akatosh Mount till up to Ring Of Wings Levitation and Midas Magic. They only differed in some of the details mainly. The overall concept remained the same.

At least, that's what I remember. If I'm wrong in anything of this, please anybody correct me. I was deep into these things back then but lost track some time ago, around the same time my modding projects got suspended due to massive lack of free time on my end. If anything changed significantly in this regard or there's now a far better approach to it, I need to know this for my future work... whether there will be future work anytime soon or not!

most dragon models even the models of dragons of Cyrodil come from ancient laws. You can get them in Russia and on Mods reloaded

Successful searching or take dragons of cyrodil and change the meshes for your own dragon ridin g mod

interesting

Midas Flying Carpet is obviously a ground hovering spell

but you can fly almost straight up using the wings

and the lack of "ground" doesn't plummet you when wing flying - but IIRC his carpet can't fly with "no ground" (certain places in the Astral realm)

Actually the Air Fight System covers the flying part: http://tes.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=36903

Here the wings don't only "flap", they move accordingly depending on the direction you want to fly. It's very different from Midas Magic's angel wings, which suspend the character in the air with an idle pose. With the Air Fight system, combat is still possible and it also has collusion, which most hover spell's lack.

One advice about the ""Dragon Invasion" mod... if you already have the Akatosh Mount mod installed, don't be surprised if the two mods conflict. Since some of the Dragon Invasion dragons are in caves, they can hover, but not really fly so that they stay in their caves. This scripting also affects the Akatosh mounts sometimes, so they can fly close to the ground, but no longer rise.
