Awkward controls for PC

Is it me or is Skyrim abit awkward with the controls, rather it be from a keyboard and mouse or an Xboxb 360 controller. Comparing to the 360 version, which I have both. I really prefer playing the 360 version than the pc, after owning both Morrowind and Oblivion for both systems (PC Xbox/360) No matter what machine they were played on, the controls were pretty fluid, easy to grasp, and very flexible if wanting to change up for your own preference. I can not say the same for the PC Version of Skyrim. Is there thing anyone can share to possibly make this not so? Or am I alone in this one.

i used to play skyrim with my 360 controllor then switched about 300 hours in. takes some getting used to.

+rep for not going where I thought you were going.

Anyway, after a while the PC controls will become second nature. I too wanted to use a 360 controller, but the ridiculous hot-key system made the K/M more practical and better. If your a PC and console gamer like I am, then you know that learning a new configuration is only several hours of game play away. It was for me.

Well at least I'm not alone lol Im just a slow player and enjoy walking around, taking my time but the "walk" option for the Keyboard is way too slow even for me. I am using a Afterglow wired 360 controller and as much as I tweak it (using default drivers for it - XBCD stopped working for me and Skyrim cant seem to pick it up when I am using XBCD) The Deadzone for the analog sticks seem abit too much. so trying to find a happy medium, if there is one. Also 300 hours then switching, i couldnt do it.

That's the compromise. Context sensitivity is not there for the K/M. But its the lack of hotkeys and continually having to go into the favorites menu just to do the little things, is what made the choice clear to me. Even after hundreds of hours and dozens of builds in Sky, I still have a bit of trouble hitting sprint, crouch, or sneak, when I should be doing the other, but it isn't so bad.

Edit: Also, Skyrim wont work with a wireless controller. You have to use a wired one.

1) Open up Magic or Inventory screen

2) Set a favourite

3) Close screen

4) Open Favourties

5) Scroll to an item

6) Hit a number to set that item's hotkey

I use a mouse and keyboard, but I bought a gaming mouse with a few programmable buttons to alleviate the headaches. (Why, oh why, must my left hand control ten buttons while my right hand gets only two of them? So unbalanced!) I'm quite happy with the purchase; it seems to have gotten rid of mouselag somehow when I play with vsync as well as making Skyrim easier to control.

I also use SkyUI, but that doesn't help so much in the middle of combat. It just makes the inventory less of a pain.

Edit:

I'm constantly surprised at how many people still don't know about the hotkeys in Skyrim.

There's a couple utilities that add even more hotkeys as well. I personally haven't used any of them, but they're there. Think they're supposed to allow easier changing of the defaults as well as allowing you to map out more keys in general. Probably require skse or script dragon.

I use the mouse/keyboard pretty much all the time, but every now and then I pop out the controller so I can sit back and relax. Can't ever buy/sell anything with the controller though since I have skyui and don't know how to switch from vendor inventory to mine with the controller. It still bothers me that the second I plug in my controller the keyboard/mouse stop working all together.... why can't I use both... grrrr. In general the controls are somewhat.... cumbersome at times.

Exactly. Vsync is forced on in this game, which is different than the others. Either turn it off, or enable triple buffering in your Nvidia/ATI CP.
